These Days
The Mick Lloyd Connection Lyrics

Hey baby, is that you?
Wow, your hair got so long.
Yeah, yeah, I love it, I really do.
"Norma jean", ain't that the song we'd sing in the car
Driving downtown, top down, makin the rounds
Checkin the bands on Dohney Avenue.
Yeah, life throws you curves,
But you've learned to swerve,
Me, I swung and I missed,
Next thing ya know, I'm reminicing...
Dreaming old dreams, wishing old wishes,
Like you would be back again.

I wake up in tear drops that fall down like rain,
I put on that old song we danced to and then,
I head off to my job, guess not much has changed,
Punch the clock, head for home,
Check the phone, just in case,
Go to bed, dream of you,
That's what I'm doing these days.

Someone told me, after college, you ran off to Vegas,
Married a rodeo cowboy,
Wow, that ain't the girl I knew,
Me, I've been a few places,
Mostly here and there once or twice,
Still sorting out life, but I'm doin all right,
Yeah, it's good to see you, too.

Well, hey girl your late, and those planes they don't wait,
But if you ever come back around this sleepy old town,
Promise me you'll stop in, to see an old friend,
And until then,

I wake up in tear drops that fall down like rain,
I put on that old song we danced to and then,
I head off to my job, guess not much has changed,
Punch the clock, head for home,
Check the phone, just in case,
Go to bed, dream of you,
That's what I'm doing these days.

I wake up in tear drops that fall down like rain,
I put on that old song we danced to and then,
I head off to my job, guess not much has changed,
Punch the clock, head for home,
Check the phone, just incase,
Go to bed, dream of you,
Yeah, that's what im doin these...

I wake up in tear drops that fall down like rain,
I put on that old song we danced to and then,

Overall Meaning

The song "These Days" by The Mick Lloyd Connection is a nostalgic ballad about an encounter between two former lovers who catch up on each other's lives. The song begins with the singer seeing his former lover and admiring how her hair has grown so long. He then reminisces about the past when they used to drive around downtown, listening to music and checking out bands on Dohney Avenue. The singer admits that sometimes life can throw you unexpected surprises, but you learn to deal with them. He reflects on how he missed his chance with his former lover and now dreams and wishes that she would come back into his life.

As the song progresses, the singer finds out that his former lover has married a rodeo cowboy in Vegas, which surprises him since she wasn't the type of girl he thought would do something like that. The singer admits that he has been to various places but hasn't completely figured out his life yet. The song ends with the singer telling his former lover that if she ever comes back to town, she should visit an old friend. The song expresses the theme of lost chances, nostalgia, and how people's lives can take different paths than expected.
