The Mighty Diamonds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ooh yeah, the knife is there
And it will cut you down to the ground
Unhm, you've got to beware
Same knife that skinned the sheep
Same knife will kill the wolf
Same knife that killed the wolf
Same knife will cut your throat
Look into yourself mankind, uuh uuh
Don't lay your life on the line, uuh uuh
For there's no time for crying
Every hand filled game play twice, oh yeah, oh yes
Every hand filled game play twice

Same knife that skinned the sheep
Same knife will kill the wolf
Same knife that killed the wolf
Same knife will cut your throat

Honour the Lord with thy substance, yeah
With the first fruit of thy heart
So shall thy burden be lifted, oh yeah, oh yeah
Who Jah Jah loveth, he correcteth

Look into yourself mankind, uuhn uuhn
Don't put your life on the line, uuhn uuhn
For there's no time for crying
Every hand filled game play twice, oh yeah, oh yes
Every hand filled game play twice

Same knife that skinned the sheep
Same knife will kill the wolf
Same knife that killed the wolf
Same knife will cut your throat

Honour the Lord with thy substance
With the first fruit of thy heart
So shall thy burden be lifted, oh yeah, oh yeah
Who Jah Jah loveth, he correcteth
Who Jah Jah loveth, he correcteth

Same knife that skinned the sheep
Same knife will kill the wolf
Same knife that killed the wolf
Same knife will cut your throat

Overall Meaning

The Mighty Diamonds's "The Same Knife" is a song that warns about the consequences of one's actions. The recurring image of the knife serves as a symbol of the inevitability of justice and karma. The lyrics suggest that the same knife that was used to harm others will eventually harm the person who wielded it. The warning to "look into yourself" and not to "lay your life on the line" suggests that one's actions have consequences and that it is important to be mindful of how one treats others.

The mention of Jah Jah (another name for God) towards the end of the song suggests that the message is rooted in Rastafarianism, a spiritual movement that emerged in Jamaica in the 1930s. The emphasis on honoring the Lord with one's substance and the first fruit of one's heart suggests an idea similar to tithing, the practice of giving a portion of one's income to a religious organization or a person in need.

The instrumental breaks in the song give the listener time to reflect on the message of the song and the power of its imagery. The repetition of the same lines reinforces the idea that the same knife that brings harm to others will eventually bring harm to oneself.

Overall, "The Same Knife" is a deeply insightful and thought-provoking song that delivers an important message about the consequences of one's actions and the importance of mindfulness and self-reflection.

Yeah i only like Tribal seeds out of Any of the new groups*
I like the early dub reggae (I think its what they call it?(the old stuff back when reggae and rocksteady and sca were all starting out)
and then the 60s 70s 80s was like the Golden age ..
90s were kind of mixed but by the late 90s and early 2000s you started getting "dancehall reggae" which is an entirely different thing (like sizzla*)
a lot of those fake horns and all those
"bulah bulah bulah!" (Human voice imitating gun shots*)
Its kinda annoying..?
Completely different vibe!*
