Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.
Break So Easily

So fragile that it frightens me
A harsh sudden reality
A painful possibility
To see it's like the strangest dream
to be it needs to still be seen
As loud as any noise you've heard
Try to answer questions forced
Forced inside of me
You were forced across the line
You're not providing me
You would break so easily
I watched you break so easily
What's it like to be right up against
Not stay on this side of the fence
A line so fine it can't be traced
A life so suddenly erased
Two came through just like a train
A flash and nothing's been the same
Try to answer questions forced
Forced inside of me
You took the answers when you broke
So easily you're gone
Once the same until
You broke so easily
Tell me now
"Break So Easily" is a song by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones that explores the fragility of life and relationships. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who is delicate and easy to break, which scares the singer. The harsh reality of this fragility is painful to consider, and it feels like a strange dream that hasn't fully been realized yet. The song also touches on the idea of crossing a line and the repercussions that come with it. The singer is left with questions forced upon them, and although they try to answer them, the person who had the answers is gone.
The opening lines of the song, "You would break so easily / So fragile that it frightens me," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer is genuinely scared of the fragility of the person in question, adding weight to the haunting melody. The contrast between the "loud as any noise you've heard" and "quiet as a whispered word" further emphasizes the dichotomy between strength and fragility.
The second verse delves into the idea of a line that cannot be traced and a life that was suddenly erased. This suggests the person may have died or left the singer's life in a way that was unforeseen. The two that came through like a train may be referring to the impact that person had on the singer's life. The final verse acknowledges that the person took the answers with them when they broke, leaving the singer with no closure.
Overall, "Break So Easily" delves into the fragility of life and the pain that comes with losing someone suddenly. The lyrics are filled with a sense of longing, and the haunting melody adds to the feeling of loss.
