Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.

I've been walking on
My eggshell walking days are done
I don't give a fuck about the apple cart
I'll upset everyone
Don't tell me on what or where to walk my friend
You once did, but those days are gone
The ones that I've been walking on
Walking on, I'm waking up
Waking up, I'm walking out
Waking up and walking out on you!
You're under the assumption I'll be moving on
Assuming it's the next move that I'll make
You've figured out I'm heading out
Now we're both wide awake
So rise and shine former friend of mine
Did you ever think this day would dawn
You can trust your assumptions
Damn right I'm moving on
Moving on, I'm waking up
Waking up, I'm walking out
Waking up and walking out on you
Walking on, I'm waking up
Waking up, I'm walking out
Waking up and walking out on you!
I'm over the eggshells
I've been walking on
My eggshell walking days are gone
I'm so over the eggshells
The ones that I've been walking on
Walking on, I'm waking up
Waking up, I'm walking out
Waking up and walking out on you
Walking on, I'm waking up
Waking up, I'm walking out
Waking up and walking out on you!
Walking on waking up
Walking on I'm walking
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones's song "Over The Eggshells" is a powerful anthem about breaking free from being restrained and moving on from a situation that is no longer serving you. The lyrics speak of being done with walking on eggshells and caring about upsetting everyone else. The singer declares that they will no longer let anyone dictate where or how they walk. They are done with living in fear and are waking up to the reality that they need to walk out and move on. The chorus repeats that they are over the eggshells that they've been walking on and that they are waking up and walking out on whoever is holding them back.
The song is full of metaphors that speak to the human experience of breaking free from barriers that hold you back. Walking on eggshells is a known metaphor for living in fear and trying to avoid upsetting others. The apple cart is a metaphor for a situation that is carefully balanced and is easily upset. The singer is telling us that they are no longer concerned about preserving this balance and are willing to make moves that may upset everyone else. The former friend that is mentioned was probably a person who held the singer back, and they are declaring that they are done with them and are moving on.
Overall, the song is a rebellious call to action to those who are feeling stuck and restrained by their current situation. It encourages us to wake up and take control of our lives, no matter what the consequences may be.
