Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.

A brand new emptiness inside
I wish that I could fill the space
It's not my place to take the place
She's been hurt and she's been lost before
This loss has her alone once more
Even though my girl's alone
She stops my rain, she calms my storm
Miracles she can perform
I've seen tough times, she's seen me through
And always knew just what to do
So many rely on her, I'm one of them and I know it
When demons haunt inside of her she fights hard not to show it
I've seen my girl forced to take
Pain, tragedy, and much heartache
The tears she hides, the smile she fakes
And through it all, she doesn't break
I don't know where she finds the strength
I'm only glad that she can
Just when I think my girl is down
She's on her feet again
She stops my rain, she calms my storm
Miracles she can perform
I've seen tough times, she's seen me through
And always knew just what to do
So many rely on her, I'm one of them and I know it
When demons haunt inside of her she fights hard not to show it
I've seen her world before my eyes
Get filled with evil, painful, spiteful lies
Still she fights, still she tries
And she will fight until she dies
Demons haunt inside of her
Demons haunt inside of her
Demons haunt inside of her
Still she fights and still she tries
Demons haunt inside of her
She will fight until she dies
In "Patricia," The Mighty Mighty Bosstones sing about a woman who has suffered through traumatic experiences and who is currently struggling with an "emptiness inside." Despite her struggles, the woman remains strong and resilient. The singer of the song, who seems to be her partner or close friend, praises her for her ability to weather difficult times and for being a pillar of strength for others, including himself.
The song is a tribute to those who have faced adversity and have come out the other side. It speaks to the human capacity for resilience and the ability to overcome obstacles. The lyrics suggest that the woman in the song is not alone in her struggles, as many people rely on her for support. Nevertheless, she remains steadfast and determined, fighting against the "demons" that haunt her.
At its core, "Patricia" is a song about the power of human connection and the importance of having strong, supportive relationships in our lives. The woman in the song may be going through a difficult time, but she is not alone. Her partner or friend recognizes her strength and is there for her, just as she is there for him.
