Take Me Home
The Mighty Regis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I lost my job at the mill today
Now I can't go home
I lost my will to work that way
Now I can't go home
I lost my money so I cannot pay
Now I can't go home
I'm good and drunk, when I walk I sway
Now I can't go home

Two, three, four
I feel like a fight 'cause I hate your face
Well I'm the king of this whole damn place
'Scuse me, Miss, I'm a big disgrace
Will you take me home
Well get your feckin' mitts off of me
I invented history
So damn drunk that I cannot see
Wil you take me home
Well what the hell are you looking at?
You're an ugly fella and your lady's fat
Hey put down that baseball bat
Just take me home
Take me home

I really don't mean to act like this
I just want to go home
Had a couple whiskeys got good and pissed
Want to go home
My girl ran away and took my shoes
Now I want to go home
My only friends are smokes and booze
Now I want to go home

Two, three, four
My name's Dan Kelly and I got no hope
I once brawled with the Holy Pope
I'm a bit outta hand could you get a rope
Tie me up and take me home
Can I lift that truck? You can bet your ass
Keep the camera rollin' 'cause I'm kinda fast
Thanks a lot, this has been a blast
Will ya take me home?
Well, one more pint then I'll leave, I swear
Not too proud to pull your hair
Lock me up and get me outta here
Just take me home
Take me home

I'm hurtin' for certain, my story's done
I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home
I've reached the end, my race is run
I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home
I'll see you again, smile on my face
I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home

You're in my heart, 'tis a special place
Now we'll all go home

Two, three, four
One more pint then I'll leave, I swear
Well, I'm not too proud to pull your hair
Lock me up and get me outta here
Just take me home

Overall Meaning

The song "Take Me Home" by The Mighty Regis is a boozy, rowdy tune that tells the story of a man who has lost everything and just wants to go home. The opening lines explain that he's lost his job at the mill, lost his will to work, lost all his money, and is now drunk and unable to walk straight. He's stranded and can't go home. The chorus repeats the phrase "Will you take me home?" as the singer becomes more and more belligerent and rowdy. He argues with others, claiming to be the king of the place and inventing history. He talks about how he wants to lift trucks and gets into a fight, all while asking for someone to take him home.

The second verse explains that he only wants to go home because he's had a few too many drinks and his girlfriend has left him with no shoes. The verse continues in a similar fashion as the first, with the chorus coming back in with the same question. The last part of the song becomes more introspective as the singer talks about how he's hurt and his race is run, and he's looking forward to going home where his heart is, with his friends and loved ones. The chorus repeats once again, with the singer asking for one more pint before he leaves.
