His career started in 1947 and he first debuted at the Calypso Palace Tent in 1948. He joined the Young Brigade Tent in 1949, where he continued playing until leaving Trinidad in 1953.
During his time in Trinidad he recorded first for SaGomes (1951), for Christopher (1952) and took part in the Dial sessions in 1953.
In 1953, he took a job as a fireman on a ship and arrived in England later that year. On arrival in England, he went first to London. In his own words: I jump in a taxi and I say, Do you know of a gentleman called Lord Kitchener? I figure he popular and a taxi driver should know. He tell me he dead long time ago. Not that one (I said). This one is a Calypsonian from the West Indies, Trinidad.
Popular or not, the taxi driver had not heard of Lord Kitchener so took him to a West Indian club where he was given the phone number of Fitzroy Coleman. Terror moved in with the Colemans and within a month he was regularly singing in the clubs and had won a contract to sing a jingle for the BBC.
He began recording for Melodisc in 1954 and took part in the Nixa sessions in 1958 (these tracks being released by Pye).
In 1957 Terror won the title of Calypso King of Great Britain at the concert organised by Claudia Jones after attacks on the West London black community. This concert was the prelude to the now famous Notting Hill Carnival.
The time between 1958 and 1964 was spent touring, first with Lord Kitchener and later with Bert McLean's Trio

If you've ever been on this ride or been too afraid to go on it, this is a MUST read.
My best friend and I went to the town fair every year and every year we would hit the Zipper. I wasn't really a fan, but she was a die hard adrenaline junkie and I was just the passive friend that followed the leader. One year we got onto the ride and I immediately didn't feel good about this trip. As we were being "checked" for being safely secured into the seat I mustered up the courage to ask the guy if he would let me off because I was scared. He just laughed, shut the cage, and sent it up.
We then proceeded to ride the Zipper for 7 or 8 consecutive rounds because every time our cage would get to the dock at the end of a round he would pass right over our cage while smiling, waving and ultimately not letting us out. I remember screaming to him as we would pass and he would just smile and wave and pass us right by for another round.
My friend was in heaven lol. So many free rides! I thought I was going to die. I'm going to choke on my vomit and nobody can save me in this death trap of a cage
We ended up making it off the ride and neither one of us could actually walk off the platform straight. We were clinging to the railing and pulling ourselves along, she's laughing hysterically, I'm struggling not to burst into tears.
Twenty years later I bet that guy still tells this story to everybody he has ever worked with from that day on.

One thing that makes this ride terrifying is that you never know when it will start. It has no slow build-up or anything. It just suddenly starts and catches you off-guard. Oh, and don't go on with a phone or loose change. Anything loosely attached to you will fly around inside the cage.

I went on it in high school and everything flew out of my purse lol

I recently visited the CNE today, I went on it. I lost my water bottle and left with only 2 leg cramps and a right hip that hurt really bad. overall a really shitty ride. not to mention that in 85’ my father went on it and puked on everybody but himself.

I made that mistake during the cranbrook fair this year, went on the zipper with my phone and keys and they almost fell out the ride when we were at the very top!
