Don't Be a Baby Baby
The Mills Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't be a baby, baby
'Bout a love that passed you by
But if you have to, baby
Go ahead and have your cry

I'll be your baby, baby
Truer than the one you knew
And someday maybe, maybe, baby
You will learn to love me too

Don't be a baby, baby
'Bout a love that passed you by
But if you have to, baby
Go ahead and have your cry

I'll be your baby, baby
Truer than the one you knew
And someday maybe, baby, baby
You will learn to love me too

Don't be a baby, baby
'Bout a love that passed you by
But if you have to, baby
Go ahead and have your cry

I'll be your baby, baby
Truer than the one you knew

And someday maybe, maybe, baby
You will learn to love me too

I love every phase of the Mills Brothers' long and musically varied career, but the '40's sides, with Harry, Donald and Herbert joined by John Sr., and Norman Brown on guitar, are my favorites. I never get tired of the format that the limited instrumentation, both real and vocally-simulated, imposed; the brothers had lovely voices and their records always achieved a beautiful intimacy and sincerity that draw the listener closer.

I have this one in a Decca book of the Mills Brothers from 1946. Really love this tune.
