I Guess I
The Mills Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yes, I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Like I've been doin' ever since we've been apart
I get some consolation when I read
Of someone else's lonely heart, yes
I wonder if you get the papers too
And if you feel as melancholy as I do
Until you're in my arms again, never more to roam
I guess I'll get the papers and go home, yes

I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Like I've been doin' ever since we've been apart
Yes, I get some consolation when I read
Of someone elses lonely heart
Mmm, I wonder if you get the papers too (bah-ba-dee-do-do-do)
And if you feel as melancholy as I do
Baby, till you're in my arms again, never more to roam

I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Yes, I guess I'll get the papers and go home

I like the octave-harmonic that happens on the final chord, I can can hear clarly a ringing octave-double of the root-sounding an octave higher than he’s singing... those guys were peerless, in all ways that were practical.

Trombonology Erstwhile

Though poignant, this number still has a world-weariness to it, that I always associate with post-WWII years -- and film noir. I'd have to give the edge to the Bros' take, but I love the Les Brown' version, too. Donald Mills had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

Michael Carey

There's also a good version by Les Brown.
