Someday
The Mills Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know that someday you'll want me to want you
When I'm in love with somebody else
You'll expect me to be true and to keep on loving you
Though I'm feeling blue
You'd think I can't forget you.

Until someday you'll want me to want you
When I'm strong for somebody new
And though you don't want me now
I'll get along somehow
And then I won't, won't want you.

(Orchestral Break)

Until someday you'll want me to want you
When I'm strong for somebody new
Although you don't want me now

I'll get along somehow
And then I won't, I won't want you.

Overall Meaning

The Mills Brothers's song Someday is a melancholic song about holding on to love when it is over. The lyrics describe an individual in a love triangle, where they are currently in love with someone who is not reciprocating their feelings. However, they know that someday the person they love will want them back when they have moved on to somebody else. In that moment, the person who was once in love would have already moved on, and the love that they once had for the other individual would have fizzled out.

The lyrics of the song are a testament to the idea that time heals all wounds. By singing the song's lyrics, the singer is anticipating a future where they will no longer love the person who once held their heart. The song presents an emotional and realistic look at love and its complexities. It's about moving on and letting go of a love that was once magical, knowing that someday, it won't hurt anymore.

Overall, The Mills Brothers's song Someday is poignant and reflective, making it one of the most beloved songs in music history.

WOW, I've only heard the dean Martin swinging version but this is so heavenly. I actually heard of the mills brothers back when I used to watch the dean Martin show with my parents....::sigh:: what great innocent times.

Even after one and later 2 passed, they still retained the magic. You probably know that Dino loved the Mills Bros. and patterned his phrasing after Harrys lead as much as Dean patterned after anyone. They are truly great and when you saw the old Martin shows-(in fact Sinatra, Crosby, etc also featured them often) the then current stars treated the Mills'Bros like royalty.

I love this song!
