All About You
The Minus Scale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want you to know
All the angry songs you sing along to
Are all about you.
They're all about you
Don't act so suprised
You know you had it comingn don't give me that line
I led you on. oh i got you all wrong
You say you want to know my secret
What makes me so numb
How can i move on not knowing anything at all

What did you want me to say?
If you get what you want can you get what you deserve?
By now i thought you get it too
I know all about you
Say what you want but say it like you mean it
Girl, there's no vengance in such shallow words
So say it like you mean it

The last five minutes of talking have got me all
Oh where there the hell did you get off
Talking to me like that?
I want you to know
All the angry songs you sing along to
They're there for me too
Not just to hurt you

If you want a conversation
Lets leave it at this
Oh how can you move on
When girl you've got such
Starry eyes

What did you want me to say?
If you get what you want can you get what you deserve?
By now i thought you get it too
I know all about you
Say what you want but say it like you mean it

Girl, there's no vengance in such shallow words
So say it like you mean it

Overall Meaning

The Minus Scale's song "All About You" appears to be a confrontational conversation between two people where one person (presumably the singer) is expressing the idea that all the angry songs the other person (presumably the subject) has been singing along to are actually representative of the subject's own life. The singer is accusing the subject of projecting their own emotional turmoil onto others through their musical preferences. The subject denies this accusation, but the singer insists that they "know all about" the subject and, as a result, refuses to be led on any further. The subject then attempts to draw out the singer's own secrets and personal struggles, but the singer is hesitant to provide that information until the subject is willing to be honest about their own issues.

The conversation then takes a turn when the subject becomes defensive and asks what the singer wants them to say. The singer responds by questioning whether the subject is capable of understanding the consequences of their actions and if they believe they deserve the outcomes they desire. The singer then encourages the subject to speak honestly about their feelings without using shallow language motivated by a desire for revenge. The song ends with the singer trying to move on from the conversation, stating that they cannot continue talking until the subject is willing to be truthful about their own life.
