The band's original lineup consisted of Wayne Hussey (vocals, guitar), Craig Adams (bass), Simon Hinckler (guitar) and Mick Brown (drums). Hussey and Adams were formerly members of The Sisters of Mercy, Mick Brown was a former member of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Hickler was a former member of Artery and Pulp. Wayne Hussey has been the only constant member of the band.
The backbone of the band's catalogue consists of seven main albums (Gods Own Medicine, Children, Carved in Sand, Masque, Neverland, Blue, Aura and God Is A Bullet) with several complementing albums, compilations and other miscellaneous releases also in existence.
The Mission attracted a faithful following band of fans, known a 'Eskimos'. Gigs typically had an energetic mosh pit (prior to the term being coined) sustained by a lot of Eskimos.
Other bandmembers:
Mark Gemini Thwaite (guitar, 1992-1996, 1999-2000, 2006-2008)
Andy Cousin (bass, 1992-1996)
Rik Carter (keyboards, 1992-1998)
Scott Garrett (drums, 1999-2002)
Rob Holliday (guitar, 2001-2005)
Richard Vernon (bass, 2002-2008)
Richard Beesley (drums, 2002)
Steve Spring (drums, 2003-2008)
In October 2007, Wayne Hussey announced the band would split after a series of early 2008 concerts at Shepherds Bush Empire in London.
In 2010, it was announced that The Mission would reform to perform at the Sinners Day Festival in Belgium on Halloween, 2011.
Tower Of Strength
The Mission Lyrics

You see me through when I'm lonely and scared
And I'm feeling true to the written word
And you're true to me but still I need more
It would tear me apart to feel no one ever cared
For me
To me
You are a tower of strength
To me
You rescue me, you are my faith, my hope, my liberty
And when there's darkness all around
You shine bright for me, you are the guiding light
To me
To me
To me
You are a tower of strength
To me
You are all passion and heart when I lay in your embrace
And heaven is in your kiss, salvation lies just a touch away
To me
To me
To me
You are a tower of strength
To me
The lyrics to The Mission's song "Tower of Strength" convey a deep sense of gratitude and reliance on someone who is a strong, supportive presence in the singer's life. The opening lines, "You raise me up when I'm on the floor / You see me through when I'm lonely and scared," indicate that this person is a source of comfort and strength in times of crisis or weakness. The singer recognizes that this person is "true" to them, but also acknowledges that they need even more support.
The repetition of the phrase "To me / You are a tower of strength" reinforces the idea that this person is consistently present and supportive in the singer's life. The gratitude and admiration that the singer feels for this person is palpable throughout the lyrics, particularly in lines like "You rescue me, you are my faith, my hope, my liberty" and "You are all passion and heart when I lay in your embrace / And heaven is in your kiss, salvation lies just a touch away."
Overall, "Tower of Strength" is a powerful homage to the kind of unwavering support and love that can sustain us through difficult times.

Bloody amazing song. Only taken me 30 or so years to love it and get into the mission. Depeche mode, sisters of mercy and now these guys to complete the trinity
