Hallucinating
The Moffatts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Am I hallucinating,
Or am I just imagining things?
I've thought what our life could be, together.
All of the lights burned out;
I can see clearly right now
If only I could open up my eyes.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name.

If I could say I love you.
If I could put my arms around you.
At least it would be
Clear inside my head.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name.

If only I could speak out loud,
Instead of keepin it in.
Then none of this would be the same
For me, for me, for me
For me, for me, for me.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I forgot your name.

Am I hallucinating?

Overall Meaning

The Moffatts's song "Hallucinating" is a melancholic ballad about a person who is struggling to come to terms with their feelings for someone. They are unsure if they are hallucinating or just imagining things due to the intensity of their emotions. The lyrics convey a feeling of confusion and frustration, as the singer is unable to express their love to the person they desire. The opening lines of the song pose a question about the singer's state of mind, and whether they are seeing things correctly. The use of the word "hallucinating" suggests that the person is experiencing distorted perceptions brought on by strong emotions.

The song's chorus repeatedly mentions that the singer has forgotten the name of the person they are thinking about. This reinforces the idea that their thoughts are muddled and confused. The presence of the line "If only I could open up my eyes" suggests that the person is aware that they are keeping their feelings inside and not expressing them. The song's lyrics also touch on themes of regret and missed opportunities, with the singer lamenting not being able to say "I love you" or put their arms around the person they desire.

Overall, "Hallucinating" is a song that captures the feelings of uncertainty and confusion that come with falling in love. The lyrics paint a picture of a person who is struggling to make sense of their emotions and struggling to express themselves.

Remember this song of the moffatts! Great sounds!

Some fun trivia! 0:47 sounds very musically similar to a melody from Smiles and Tears, one of the songs from the Earthbound (Mother 2) soundtrack. Notice the similarities in the timestamp from a fan upload here:

I'm sure that it's just a pure coincidence, but I thought this was interesting to point out. I appreciate the song that much more because it brings two of my fandoms together. ❤️ What's interesting about the Mother soundtracks is that they took these video game themes and arranged them with lyrics. My favourite songs have to be Pollyanna and Paradise Line.
