It would've been much better
suited for Comedy Central.
The reason it ended up on MTV
is that Daria was
a recurring character
on "Beavis & Butthead",
which had been turned
into an MTV series after
the shorts had made the rounds
at animation festivals
& then were shown as part
of MTV's "animation festival"
experiment, "Liquid Television".
In other words, "Daria"
was that rarity of rarities,
a spin-off of a spin-off.

Eze Wong oh don't get me wrong,
i do love snark and sarcasm, cynicism, etc.
Duckman, George Carlin, among others...
even as a kid i liked those but that's because they not only did that, but they also made it fun and enjoyable to watch,
i mean it WAS a comedy after all, it was designed to entertain, but they did still have their corners of truth and their obvious mind blowing messages.
but House and Daria were just kill joys overall you see
because they don't try to even look exaggeratedly pissed or miserable or even make fun of something meaningful, no, they're both just constantly miserable at everything, and they complain and complain and complain.
that's nothing more than the annoying kid at your school who's angry at life, consumed by nihilism and rains on everyone's parade
that's not enjoyable
people put out to get away from people like that
and those 2 don't give a lighter side to a serious issue, they just bring it down to nothing but some cruel reminder, AND makes it boring to boot, pure cynicism is not enjoyable, it's like having a pizza crust without the pizza
cynicism with a dash of entertainment however? there we go, it can even be insightful
to have true snark, you have to make fun of something and if "fun's" not included, then snark is nonexistent
when you watch a cartoon
do you want to feel like you're in school?
like you're being taken for a cruel truth ride that tells you everything's fake and unavoidable?
no you're watching a cartoon
a cartoon is a cartoon above all else
if it's meant to be serious, but it's meant to be serious, if it's meant to be fun? then you require cartoon aspects to make it so
you can make a very serious mind blowing show disguised as a cartoon
but making a cartoon disguised as a show that tries to be cynical? it devalues itself
i mean take a good look at Duckman
Duckman is everything Daria is, done right
give it a shot

"My goal is to not wake up at 40. With the bitter realization that I've wasted my life, on a job I hate. Because I was forced to decide on a career in my teens" 🙏🏻 Gold.
@delizaelizee7854
Psychedelic_mind22 Me as well Daria.
@noemistephanie93
That's actually a pretty good point that she brought up. More teens should think like that before they fully commit to a career they aren't sure they want
@erinoldcoot3381
You could be like me and be screwed out of a career in your 30s and now be in your 40s and unemployable because you're too old.
@wendiwasden7088
Same though
@klins061
Highly accurate.

"You've got the kind of looks that make other girls mentally ill."
Christ, if that's not the ruthless way of complementing someone's looks, I don't know what is.
@ahhwe-any7434
I hate you 😤. Also, ppl would pay to look like you
@cutienerdgirl
That also really goes against everything she's been preaching about. It isn't her fault that everyone else is insecure about how they look.
@theemirofjaffa2266
I dont even know if that's an insult or a compliment
