I Won't Do Anything
The Moments Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I won't do anything
Since my baby has gone
And though she's gone
I'm gonna vow
I'm gonna be true to her a view
Before she out me in love
No wonder can't be praised
And it's time to be awake
So all you got you can give all you have
Bur she longs to need
And so it's gonna stay
No, I won't do anything
It's for my baby
Gotta sing too
Please put me
I must be crazy

A love like ours is so hard to find
You know you always left me on a side
Gonna do it
Gonna make it till your love is afraid
And no matter where or when I found
And all my love is sacred inside
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, my baby

A love like ours is so hard to find
You know you always left me on a side
Gonna do it
Gonna make it till your love is afraid
And no matter where or when I found
And all my love is sacred inside

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, my baby.

Overall Meaning

The Moments’ song “I Won’t Do Anything” is a song about unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. The singer sings about how he won’t do anything since his baby has left him, but vows to remain true to her even if she never loved him back. He recognizes the difficulty in finding a love as special as theirs and sings about how he will keep his feelings and love for her sacred.

The lyrics suggest that the singer is heartbroken and struggling to let go of this love that he has for his baby. He recognizes that his love may not be reciprocated but still promises to stay true to her even when it hurts him. The reference to not doing anything since she has gone could indicate that he is struggling to move on from the relationship and is feeling lost without her.

The repetition of the chorus with the lines “A love like ours is so hard to find” signals the importance of the love that they shared and how special it was to him. The song ends with the singer expressing his love for his baby one last time, but also acknowledging that he may be crazy for holding onto a love that was never returned.

Street Corner Memories

I remember buying Love On A Two-Way Street as a kid in 1970. I flipped the record and listened to this song and liked it a lot! Haven't heard this is years!

Never ignore that B side!
I'm sitting in a radio station in, say, August of '72, rifling through new promo releases from the record distributors.
I've got the new single release from an old MOTOWN group, now on ATLANTIC. Yeah, the A side was kinda' sorta (selected by the record company to "push" for radio airplay by the company's promotional staff to radio decision makers).
Depending on your age, sure you can recall the A side, but the B side's intro nailed it (producer TOM BELL crafted this album, and balanced brass and strings perfectly)!
I called my classmate, working at KATZ-AM radio in St Louis, telling him to flip the single and get his boss KEITH ADAMS to get it into rotation, which they did.
Stations NEVER flip promo records, since your competition across town is trying to meet or beat you for listenership in your market (go with what the record company is pushing nationwide, right?).
The B-side clicked, in industryspeak. KEITH got a gold record, and cemented his industry reputation. I sat in my studios, pushing whatever music I was pushing at the time. Lots of great war stories like this. And, oh, that single was HOW COULD I LET YOU GET AWAY?, and that B-side was, oh course, I'LL BE AROUND.
Good ear for music, eh?

@Neal Bradleigh Yes, I'll Be Around was and is a great tune! I just took a listen to the "A" side... definitely, "I'll Be Around" was the better choice! Great job!
