Jack in the Box
The Moments Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Jack comes out of the box
The bears came home and caught Goldilocks
That horn belongs to Little Boy Blue
And it's a fact, girl, yes it's a fact, pure natural fact
That I belong to you

You think i fool around, girl
I knew the things i do
Stay out of the streets, I'm not gonna hustlin' for you
Don't doubt my loving, coz my loving is true
So sit self down, i've got something to tell you (something to tell you)

Jack comes out of the box
The bears came home and caught Goldilocks
That horn belongs to Little Boy Blue
And it's a fact, girl, yes it's a fact, pure natural fact
That I belong to you

It sounds like a game, it's a doggone shame
I can't make you believe that i'm yours
But a fact is a fact, and baby this ain't no right
So sit self down, i've got something to tell you (something to tell you)

Jack comes out of the box
The bears came home and caught Goldilocks
That horn belongs to Little Boy Blue

And it's a fact, girl, yes it's a fact, pure natural fact
That I belong to you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Moments' song "Jack in the Box" are playful and metaphorical, comparing the singer's commitment to his lover to various characters and objects from children's stories. The chorus repeats three specific references: Jack coming out of his box, the bears catching Goldilocks, and Little Boy Blue's horn. These references suggest that the singer is loyal and devoted to his partner, just like Jack is always coming back to his box, the bears are always coming home to their house, and Little Boy Blue is always playing his horn.

The verses provide more insight into the singer's perspective. He assures his partner that he is not cheating on her, despite her doubts. He even warns her to stay away from the streets so that she doesn't see him doing anything suspicious. The repetition of the phrase "something to tell you" also implies that the singer has some kind of big secret or revelation to share with his partner, although he doesn't specify what that might be.

Overall, the lyrics of "Jack in the Box" present a mix of innocence and mature adult themes. The references to nursery rhymes and fairy tales create a whimsical atmosphere, but the singer's emphasis on his true love and his partner's trust issues add a layer of complexity.

Never forget a melody, just heard this on Mi Soul radio. Quick YouTube search and bang, here it is. Last time I heard this I was just 12. I'm now 56 and it sounds as beautiful as it did then. Not gonna lie, tear in my eye but that's a very very happy tear. Great song, fabulous outfits and beautifully times they were back in the 70's. ❤️🎶🎶❤️
