Written and sung by Nesmith, the song's title is never heard. It is about a man waiting for the arrival of a plane with his girlfriend on it.
According to "Monkee Tales" #31 (1981), page 7, in the article entitled "Review of Present", author John Conners states that the song has a surprise ending. The last line, "I told you I'd come back, here I am" is sung by Nesmith in a menacing tone. This gives the tune a sadistic touch; the man is waiting to harm his girlfriend. Nesmith confirms this in the article.
"Good Clean Fun" reached No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 29 on the Easy Listening chart. The flip-side, "Mommy and Daddy", is sung by Micky Dolenz, who wrote it.

And starts to erase all the gloom
And the sun with a kiss, begins to dismiss the
Memory of my life without you
Well it seems like yesterday that my path took me away
Although I know it's been at least a year
But now my path heads home
And your patient time alone
And this plane gets closer
Every minute I look down to a watch that keeps looking back at me
And it says to me, "Be patient son you've waited this long."
How can I be strong?
And this the plane gets closer
Every minute I look down to watch that keeps looking back at me
And it says to me, "Be patient son you've waited this long."
How can I be strong?
Well the plane is finally down
And the engines stopped their sound
And I look in the crowd and there you stand
And the gap that once was time
Is forever closed behind
I told you I'd come back and here I am.
"Good Clean Fun" is a love song by The Monkees. The song tells a story of a man who had to leave his loved one to follow his path, but now he is coming back to her. The lyrics paint a picture of his journey back to her and the feelings he has as he gets closer. He describes how the wind and the sun are wiping away his memories of life without her and how her patient waiting has brought them closer together. He is anxious and nervous as he approaches, wondering how he will stay strong. As the plane lands, he sees her waiting for him in the crowd, and he knows that the time they spent apart is gone forever.
The song is a beautiful portrayal of love and the power of patience and time. It shows the significance of having unwavering faith in the person you love and the belief that your love will endure.
