Their first single was "Dancing The Night Away", which topped John Peel's 1977 Festive Fifty countdown and reached number 42 in the UK Singles Chart in that year. Two other sizeable hits followed. In 1978 the band released "Airport" - which proved to be the band's biggest seller - and which peaked at number 4. The song was also a minor hit in the United States. The follow-up - the Motown-influenced "Forget About You" - was released two months later.
The Motors' original recording line-up released two albums, both of which met with modest success; The Motors 1 in 1977 and Approved By the Motors the following year. After that record, the Motors split up; Garvey and McMaster used the band's name for the 1980 album Tenement Steps, which didn't equal the spark of their first two records.

Lyrics to Today
Today if we think of it
This world could fall in love
And live the kind of life we only dream about
And while we're there
We'd stop the show
Just you and I
With a love so strong
We'd turn this over
Right from wrong
Oh you and I, we'd realize
The many things to do and to say
And this world could fall in love
Today
Oh you say there's nothing you can do
To change what's going on
And make this world a better place to live upon
But I say to you
You don't have to pray
Just you and I
With a love so strong
We'd turn this over
Right from wrong
Oh you and I, we'd realize
The many things to do and say
And this world would fall in love again
Today
The Motors' song Freeze, released in 1978, encourages listeners to believe in the possibility of love and unity in the world. The song expresses a desire to stop the negativity and chaos in the world and replace it with something better. The lyrics acknowledge that there are problems in the world, but argues that love can conquer all.
The first verse starts with the singer imagining a world that could "fall in love" and people living "the kind of life we only dream about". The chorus repeats the idea that "this world could fall in love today" if only people would make the effort. The second verse is directed at someone who feels hopeless in the face of the world's problems. The singer encourages this person to take action, not just pray, and to work together to create change. The song's hopeful message is summed up in the final lines, "And this world would fall in love again/ Today".
