Jamestown
The Movielife Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Focus (focus)
Commitment and trust give in to me
Friendship (friendship)
Forced through broken bones and tragedy
Can't fucking believe
This joke has gotten out of hand
Won't Pretend (won't pretend)
That I don't feel the break, but I feel the bend

"Late night, snow fall
Get us to the hospital
Jamestown, 94 West,
And a Forty Hour train back to penn"

Leaves fall (Leaves fall)
If it means anything, it just means we're dead
Snow falls (snow falls)
It means my feet just flew over my head
Can't fucking believe
This joke has gotten out of hand
Won't Pretend (won't pretend)
That I don't feel the break, but I feel the bend

"Late night, snow fall
Get us to the hospital
Jamestown, 94 West,
And a Forty Hour train back to Penn"

There's no setback
That can set me back
I think the punch is warm and thin
And I'm weakening
The one thing that keeps me in the ring
Are the people that would never exist to me (to me)

If my mind's a weapon, my heart's the extra clip

"Late night, snow fall
Get us to the hospital
Jamestown, 94 West,
And a Forty Hour train back to Penn"

We're all broken
Endure, I'm still fucking here

Overall Meaning

The Movielife's "Jamestown" is a song that is often celebrated for the level of emotional intensity that it manages to convey throughout its short runtime. The song features a fast-paced rhythm that belies the deeper emotional themes present throughout the lyrics. At its core, the song is a complex contemplation on the nature of relationships, and the ways in which they can be forged and sustained in even the most trying of circumstances.

The opening lines of the song, "Focus (focus) / Commitment and trust give in to me," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, which focus on the ways in which relationships require effort and dedication in order to be maintained. This is further illustrated in the lines "Friendship (friendship) / Forced through broken bones and tragedy," which depict the idea that true friends are forged through shared experiences, both good and bad. However, the song also acknowledges the fragility of these relationships, as demonstrated in the lines "Can't fucking believe/ This joke has gotten out of hand / Won't pretend (won't pretend) / That I don't feel the break, but I feel the bend."

The song then shifts to telling a story of night time snowfall and hospital trips, further emphasizing the theme of endurance that runs throughout the lyrics. The repeated line "Late night, snow fall / Get us to the hospital / Jamestown, 94 West, / And a Forty Hour train back to Penn" is both haunting and evocative, speaking to the deep emotional struggles that underlie the lyrics. Even while acknowledging the difficulties of maintaining relationships, the song ultimately concludes on a positive note, with the final lines "We're all broken / Endure, I'm still fucking here," serving as a reminder that even in times of great difficulty, there is often a way forward.

I'm trying to think, if he's on a 40 hour train back to Penn he probably took a train out of New Orleans.

@asticker4trying641

I can't remember where I read it, but I'm pretty sure they were heading back after a show in the winter time, and their van hit ice and flipped, destroyed a BUNCH of their stuff, and that's why the wrote this masterpiece.
