In 2001 the song Take the Long Road and Walk It circulated as a demo, before being released by Fierce Panda. The band were quickly signed by EMI/Virgin imprint, Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.
In 2002, following another EP, The People, they released their eponymous debut album.
In Autumn 2004, they released their second album, Welcome to the North, and the accompanying single Freedom Fighters, before touring with Incubus. One of the singles from the album, Breakin', became a hit on American rock radio.
Their eagerly awaited third album entitled Strength in Numbers was released in June 2008. However, in September 2010, singer/songwriter Robert Harvey confirmed the group's intention to split, and on 31 March 2011 the band announced a series of farewell shows in Japan and the UK.

The People
The Music Lyrics

Whats up, man?
Reborn
Representing Christ
You already know
You know, judgment starts in the house of the lord
It doesn't start in the hood or the block
It starts in the church, we got to get right
"These People, honor me with their lips
But their heart is far from Me"
"These People, honor me with their lips
But their heart is far from Me" - ohh
All i hear is people saying "I already know him!"
"And if God is with me, who can be against me?"
But they don't even know the word
(You gotta get in that word man, come on Rise Up!)
To be a friend to the world, is to be an enemy to God
What You forgot?
Got to get on your knees, man seek his face (Seek his face)
Jesus Christ, man he wants to take his place (That's right, take your place lord)
He wants to be the head of the church (Church)
Not yet pastor, the head of the church
No, we got to go with the five fold anointing, I know it sounds disappointing
But its the anointing that breaks the yoke
Come on pastors, you seem like a joke (No)
You got to come to the cross (Cross)
Jesus Christ, he wants to save the lost
"These People, honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me"
"These People, honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me" - ohh
Yeah, I hold this against You - You have forsaken the love You had at first
Remember the thirst, (Oh, yeah)
(Oh, yeah)
"Consider how far you've fallen
Repent and do the things you did at first (First)
If You do not repent, Ill come and remove your lamp stand" (Lamp stand)
From its place, remember your sins have been erased (Been erased)
Remember that murder was the case (Murder was the case!)
Put your head upon the father, the son, and the holy ghost
"These People, honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me"
"These People, honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me" - ohh
(Come on lord, help us lord)
(Help us get right with you Jesus)
(Because I know your coming back for that bride)
(Goes for me, and the body of Christ)
(Purify our hearts lord, we need you)
(Let our pride come down, let our unbelief come down)
(We thank You, that greater is he who lives in us, then he who lives in the world)
(These People, reach em' lord)
(Teach em' lord)
The Music's song The People is a simple yet poetic melody that speaks of nature's rhythm at the end of the day. The lyrics describe the sun setting and the birds returning to their nests, while a pony runs through the meadow, signaling the end of his work. The song is characterized by a soothing, melodic tune that evokes a sense of peace and calmness that is associated with the end of a long day.
The song seems to be addressing the "little people" - the creatures of the earth - who are getting ready for the night's rest. The crow and the pony signify their need for sleep, just like humans. The repetition of "Goodnight, little people, we're going to bed" at the end of each verse reiterates the singer's peaceful and gentle tone, making the song a soothing lullaby that puts one at ease.
One interpretation of the song could also be that it celebrates the end of a long day's work, and the return to rest and rejuvenation. It is an homage to the tranquility and serenity of nature and highlights the importance of respecting its rhythm.

Lyrics:
Hey Monday morning,
See what you're missing,
I can't live my life like this boy,
I said hey little lady,
See what you're missing,
I can't get enough of your love,
She goes
Out all alone and out on her own
How many times do,
I have to say this,
Your match is a light for me babe,
I said hey little lady,
See what you're missing,
I can't get enough of your love,
All alone [Repeat: x6]
The people [Repeat: x3]
Change the way you live now,
The people [Repeat: x3]
Change the way you live now,
Hey Monday morning,
See what you're missing,
I can't live my life like this boy,
I said hey little lady,
See what you're missing,
I can't get enough of your love,
All alone [Repeat: x6]
The people [Repeat: x3]
Change the way you live now,
The people [Repeat: x3]
Change the way you live now.

@rael1999
Saw these live four times and they were brilliant....in the 1970's and early eighties these would have been massive but sadly it was still all about Brit pop and Indie when these guys were around.

I don't know what made me think of this just now. Need some get ready for work music and couldn't log into Pandora. I listened to this cd a lot when I moved into this apartment 17 years ago. What a long strange trip its been. Not many bands can you get drunk to and dance to....get the demons out too.
