In 2001 the song Take the Long Road and Walk It circulated as a demo, before being released by Fierce Panda. The band were quickly signed by EMI/Virgin imprint, Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.
In 2002, following another EP, The People, they released their eponymous debut album.
In Autumn 2004, they released their second album, Welcome to the North, and the accompanying single Freedom Fighters, before touring with Incubus. One of the singles from the album, Breakin', became a hit on American rock radio.
Their eagerly awaited third album entitled Strength in Numbers was released in June 2008. However, in September 2010, singer/songwriter Robert Harvey confirmed the group's intention to split, and on 31 March 2011 the band announced a series of farewell shows in Japan and the UK.

The Rain
The Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I feel it more than ever
If there is no-one that can show me
How am I to learn from my mistakes?
Cause there's nothing I can't do to stop the violence
Well there's nothing I can do to stop this pain
Cause I'm nothing without you
Well there's nothing I can do to stop the rain
Our island's calling out for someone
Our words they are marching for us
How I am falling like a broken cloud
But now the sun has burned into my eyes
Cause there's nothing I can do to stop the violence
Well there's nothing I can do to stop this pain
Cause I'm nothing without you
We're nothing without you
Well there's nothing I can do to stop the rain
Cause there's nothing I can do to stop the violence
Well there's nothing I can do to stop this pain
Cause I'm nothing without you
We're nothing without you
Well there's nothing I can do to stop the rain
The Music's "The Rain" is a poignant, heartbreaking song that speaks to the universal human experience of suffering and loss. The lyrics serve as an emotional plea for help and guidance, as the singer cries out for someone to show them how to learn from their mistakes. They feel the weight of their own inadequacy and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness in the face of violence and pain.
The metaphor of the rain serves to illustrate the unrelenting nature of suffering, as the singer acknowledges that there is nothing they can do to stop it. The song also touches on themes of community and the need for companionship, as the singer realizes that they are nothing without those around them.
Musically, the song is sparse and atmospheric, with subdued instrumentation that serves to underscore the emotional weight of the lyrics. The haunting quality of the vocals adds to the somber mood of the song, creating a powerful listening experience that lingers in the memory long after the song has ended.
Overall, "The Rain" is a profoundly moving song that speaks to the human experience in a way that is both universal and deeply personal.
