… Read Full Bio ↴There were at least two different groups with the name The Mystics.
1.) The Mystics, Brooklyn, NY, USA
2.) The Mystics, Macau / Hong Kong
1.) The Mystics are a singing group which began in Brooklyn, New York, USA in the late 1950s. The group was known as The Overons, a quintet that, when signed to Laurie Records, consisted of Phil Cracolici (b. 1937, lead), Albee Cracolici (b. 1936, baritone), George Galfo (b. 1939, second tenor), Bob Ferrante (b. 1936, first tenor), and Al Contrera (b. 1940, bass). Under the direction of their manager, Jim Gribble, The Overons became The Mystics when each group member wrote a name they liked on a slip of paper, placed the papers in a hat and Al Contrera's choice was drawn.
2.) The Mystics were formed in 1965 during the glory years of HK’s English pop scene. The members largely comprised of hkongers of Portugese decent. The band was popular at the school parties and “tea dances”, and recorded chart toppers like I can’t help myself, Sweet soul music, Midnight hour, Going out of my head, Song of the wind, One day (sang by Don Choi) and Send her back (composed by Michael Remedios and Tony Tavares). They disbanded in 1971.
Don't Take the Stars
The Mystics Lyrics

Stars bright above
They're gone away
Now the sky is grey
[Chorus]
Don't take the stars from the sky
Don't say that our love must die
You mean the world to me
You are my destiny
You are my angel love
Sent from heaven above
[Chorus]
Give your love back to me
Set the heavens free
Our stars will shine
When you say that you'll be mine
What good is life to me
Without your love I'll be
Alone and oh so blue
Oh baby, how I want you
[Chorus]
What good is life to me
Without your love I'll be
Alone and oh so blue
Oh baby, how I want you
[Chorus]
The lyrics of The Mystics' song "Don't Take The Stars" talk about the feeling of falling in love under the bright stars on a beautiful night. The singer describes how the stars seemed to disappear after that night and how the sky has become grey, perhaps symbolizing the loss of that magical feeling. The chorus emphasizes the plea to not take away the stars and not let their love die. The verses and the bridge of the song continue with the singer expressing how much their lover means to them and how they are their angel love sent from heaven above. It ends with the singer begging for their lover's return, believing that life without their love will be lonely and blue.
Overall, the song portrays a deep sense of romance, love, and hopelessness. The use of celestial imagery like stars and heavens creates a romantic atmosphere and the lyrics express the universal feeling of not wanting to let go of love.

This song is the epitome of Doo-Wop! This group too is representative of the sweet and innocence years of the period, once I heard it on the radio, zoom! bought it and over-played it. The Mystics were always an underrated group, yet their harmony will always remain in the vinyl! Thank you guys! M.
P.S. Still listening at 71.

I have been playing keyboards for The Mystics for the last 6 months. These guys perform a lot. They work more than most "new" bands. Check out their Website for dates.

I was visiting Laurie records regarding a song of mine recorded by another artist on their label. They showed me a stack of demos of songs rejected by The Mystics and asked me to write a song for the group's next recording session scheduled for the following week. Still in high school, I wrote "Don't Take the Stars" over the weekend and presented a demo to the company that Monday. The group liked the song and recorded it the very same week. Thanks to heavy play by New York deejays, "Don't Take The Stars" hit the charts and became The Mystics' second hit after "Hushabye".

+Mark Harris I'm glad they chose your song, but perhaps they should have chosen more and discarded less. They had great potential.
