After their initial formation in 2008, their debut album "Passive Me, Aggressive You" was released on the "Somewhat Damaged" label during September 2010. The single "Young Blood" debuted at number one on the New Zealand chart - the first New Zealand artist to do so in three years. On 6 December 2010, the BBC announced that The Naked and Famous had been nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll.
Their second album, 2013's In Rolling Waves, reached the top 5 on the New Zealand Albums chart, and top 15 on the Australian Albums and US Billboard Top Alternative Albums charts. Their following album, Simple Forms, was Xayalith and Powers' first release as a two-piece. Their fourth album, Recover, was released in 2020, and peaked at 19 on RMNZ's New Zealand Artist Albums chart.
A Wolf In Geek's Clothing
The Naked and Famous Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take a bow
Don't fret
It's over now
Overflow
Shake a fist
Howling at
Felt something
Starts to burn
Fades away
The wind, it turns
Ashes flow
Moon is glow
Run away
Forget the day
Down and out
Nothing's doubts
Let's get
The molting out
Make a space
Set it free
Tug or pull
They will see
Felt something
Starts to burn
Fades away
The wind, it turns
Ashes flow
Moon is glow
Run away
Forget the day
Forget the day, forget the day, forget the day
The lyrics of The Naked and Famous's song "A Wolf in Geek's Clothing" seem to be about letting go of the past and moving on. The first few lines start with reassurance to not worry, stressing on the fact that whatever has happened is over and there is no need to worry about it anymore. At the same time, the lyrics are asking the listener to show some pride and celebrate instead of worrying about the minor details. In the next stanza, the singer describes a sense of emptiness, and frustration with life that leads to anger and howling, only to quickly fade away. The following stanza instructs the listener to let go of the past and forget about it; nothing should be doubted anymore.
From the lyrics of the song, it seems like the singer is asking the listener to embrace change and start living in the moment, pointing to a life with no worries and no fears. The line "make a space, set it free..." appears to encourage the listener to create freedom within themselves and let their light shine, to be themselves and live to their fullest.
