My Energy
The Naked and Famous Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Promise you will rescue me
If I bind you with my energy
I'll blind you babe, a fast one see
Comfort you in my disease

Standing there with outstretched arms
Vaccinated to my charms
Know that I will only waste
The next few months by saving grace

I saw you breathing as we woke
I felt the shake before it broke
I saw the future swallow all the love we've known
'Cause it's all just been one big joke

If we're going off your past
Nothing you can build will last
A partial cleanse, a bloody bath
Rolling in the aftermath

We should move before these hearts
(Defuse in the love we are losing)
Ripen as the boredom starts
(Inside the sea of changes)
And what a lackluster performance, babe
(Regardless, we're gonna discard this)
Twitching as the interest fades

I saw you breathing as we woke
I felt the shake before it broke
I saw the future swallow all the love we've known
'Cause it's all just been one big joke

And now we're giving it up, giving it up, giving it up
(One big joke)
And now we're giving it up, giving it up, giving it up
(One big joke)
And now we're giving it up, giving it up, giving it up
(One big joke)
And now we're giving it up, giving it up, giving it up
(One big joke)

I saw you breathing as we woke
I felt the shake before it broke
I saw the future swallow all the love we've known
'Cause it's all just been one big joke

I saw you breathing as we woke
I felt the shake before it broke
I saw the future swallow all the love we've known
'Cause it's all just been one big joke

I saw you breathing as we woke

Overall Meaning

The song "My Energy" by The Naked and Famous can be interpreted as an emotional plea from the singer to their partner. At the beginning of the song, the singer promises their partner that if they bind them with their energy, they will rescue them. The singer also acknowledges that they have a disease that they are willing to share with their partner in order to comfort them. The singer seems to be desperately holding onto their relationship, despite the knowledge that it may not last. The line "I'll blind you babe, a fast one see" suggests that the singer is aware that their love may be overwhelming or even harmful to their partner.

Throughout the song, there are references to the inevitable end of the relationship. The lines "And what a lackluster performance, babe" and "Twitching as the interest fades" indicate that the relationship has become boring and unfulfilling for both parties. Despite this, the singer seems to be holding out hope that they can salvage the relationship before it completely falls apart. The repeated chorus of "it's all just been one big joke" suggests that the singer may be struggling to come to terms with the reality of their situation.

Overall, "My Energy" is a poignant and emotional song about a relationship that is struggling to survive. The singer's desperation and longing for their partner is palpable, and the repeated references to the end of the relationship lend a sense of inevitability to the song.

Guny Fuentes I discovered them after hearing them at a music festival a couple of years ago. Then it was "Hearts Like Ours" that cemented my fandom. It just seemed to get me :) Really love the new album too!

I love how TNAF blends elements of alt. rock, synth pop, and electronic. It can be difficult to blend the synth and guitar parts in synergetic harmony.

such a great album. How these guys aren't more well known still baffles me. I feel like it's gonna take being a lead song on a movie or a TV show for them to blow up.
