Waterfall
The Neal Morse Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Set all your dreams to go
Wake up wondering
Where you are in time
I find
No better place to go
Somewhere wandering there
I see the one
And I run, I run, I run

Here by the waterfall
Sweep my troubles all
Downstream
There at the riverside
Every tear I've cried
Washed clean
Please take my sorrow far from me

Dust never makes a sound
It creeps until your heart
is black and blind
My mind
Never knows how to rest
If I could have some peace under the sun
I'd run, I'd run, I'd run...

Here by the waterfall
Sweep my troubles all
Downstream
There at the riverside
Every tear I've cried
Washed clean

And I'll forever know I'm free
And I'll forever know I'm free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Waterfall" by The Neal Morse Band speak about the journey of life and the search for a place of solitude where one can find inner peace and freedom. It begins with the opening lines "Set all your dreams to go, Wake up wondering, Where you are in time," which suggest a sense of restless wandering and seeking clarity in life. The singer then sees a "somewhere wandering" figure, and they feel compelled to follow and run towards it. The idea of running towards something and the imagery of a waterfall evoke a sense of movement and progression towards a desired goal.

The chorus of the song describes the waterfall as a place where the character can fully let go of their troubles and find solace. The repetition of the phrase "Here by the waterfall" emphasizes the importance of this place in the character's journey towards inner peace. The symbolism of washing away one's tears and sorrows in the river creates a sense of renewal and rebirth. The final line "And I'll forever know I'm free" reinforces the idea that finding this place of solitude and peace has brought a sense of liberation to the character.

The song's lyrics are simple yet powerful in conveying the idea of finding a place of sanctuary in life. The image of a waterfall has a timeless quality to it, making the song relatable to anyone seeking solace and freedom in the journey of life.

Got a Seven Bridges Road(The Eagles) and The River(Opeth) feel to it, only leaving one feeling refreshed by the source from which water fell. Thanks for this one guys! ✝️🕯
