Where do I go? Follow the river
Where do I go? Follow the gulls
Where is the something, where is the someone
That tells me why I live and die?
Where do I go? Follow the children
Where do I go? Follow their smiles
Is there an answer in their sweet faces
That tells me why I live and die?
Follow the wind song, follow the thunder
Follow the neon in young lovers' eyes
Down to the gutter, up to the glitter
Into the city where the truth lies
Where do I go? Follow the children
Where do I go? Follow their smiles
Is there an answer in their sweet faces
That tells me why I live and die?
Follow the wind song, follow the thunder
Follow the neon in young lovers' eyes
Down to the gutter, up to the glitter
Into the city where the truth lies
Where do I go? Follow my heartbeat
Where do I go? Follow my hand
Where will they lead me?
And will I ever discover why I live and die?
I live and die
Why do I live?
Why do I die?
Tell me where do I go?
Tell my why, tell me where?
Tell my why, tell me where?
Tell me why?

Where do I go

Follow the river

Where do I go

Follow the gulls

Where is the something

Where is the someone

That tells me why I live and die

Where do I go

Follow the children

Where do I go

Follow their smiles

Is there an answer

In their sweet faces

That tells me why I live and die

Follow the wind song

Follow the thunder

Follow the neon in young lovers' eyes

Down to the gutter

Up to the glitter

Into the city

Where the truth lies

Where do I go

Follow my heartbeat

Where do I go

Follow my hand

Where will they lead me

And will I ever

Discover why I live and die

Why do I live (beads, flowers)

Why do I die (freedom, happiness)

Tell my why (beads, flowers)

Tell me where (freedom, happiness)

Tell my why (beads, flowers)

Tell me why (freedom!)

I love the almost-key-changing chord progression in the line "Follow the neon in young lovers' eyes".

This song summed up my life when I realized I didn't want to do what I thought I wanted for 13 years and had no other plan. Not knowing where to go or what you should do is terrifying, which is why I love the way Gavin sings this song. It's quiet with a sense of fear that captures the feeling perfectly.

@Luverofmysoul2

I'm there with you on this one.

@rogerfreed1493

One of my favorite songs of all time. I am glad someone made a new version of it.

@rogerfreed1493

This was like my theme song when I was younger.
Still love it.

@wireandangels

First of all, it's spelled "soul". And it's his own interpretation of the song. It's quiet because he's quiet. It's empty because he feels empty. I saw the revival on Broadway with Gavin Creel and he was...absolutely stunning. I love this musical but never care for Claude - until Gavin Creel. It was the first time the character really got to me. It was heartbreaking. It was perfect. And I do think there's some soul here. But it's a quiet soul.

@rogermoore27

I want to hear a reggae version of this song
