A World Without Love
The News Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What I tell is a different story,
What i have, I take, then give it all away,
So if you'd like to come this way,
Then help me climb the walls that stand before me.

I wanna know,
If this is just a game,
Can anybody play,
Can everybody win,
Can you believe it,

I may be lost, i may be blind,
I may be cursing most of the time
But it's half the fun,
And in this world we spin and shout
We want it all we want it now,
They said 'oh shut your mouth
You don't know what you talk about'.

I wanna know,
If this is just a game,
Can anybody play,
Can everybody win.

Another show another scene,
The city sleeps below you sing a lullaby,
Another show another scene and,
I can't imagine the world without me,
I can't imagine the world without me,
I can't imagine the world without me, Hey,
I'm on a roll, i'm on a roll, la la la la.

I'm on a roll la la la la,
I'm on a roll la la la la,
I'm on a roll la la la la,

Me me me me me me me me me,
Me me me me me me me me.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "A World Without Love" tell the story of someone who is living life their way, taking what they have and giving it away, and climbing walls that stand before them. They question if life is just a game, if everyone can win, and if they can believe it. They acknowledge that they may be lost or blind and may curse most of the time, but it's half the fun. They want it all and they want it now, even if others try to tell them to shut up because they don't know what they are talking about. The lyrics end with the statement that the singer is on a roll and can't imagine the world without themselves.

The lyrics can be interpreted as a reflection on the desire for individuality and independence, even at the risk of being misunderstood or alienated by others. The singer is determined to live their life on their own terms, even if it means being alone. The line "I can't imagine the world without me" suggests a selfish attitude, but it can also be interpreted as a realization of one's own value and importance.

I might not have it all figured out and can be prone to frustration, but all of it is part of the adventure and makes the journey more exciting.

The repetition of 'me' at the end emphasizes the self-centered nature of the previous lyrics and potentially serves as a critique of self-absorption and egocentrism.

I love this track as well .It is the one from the Modern Dance LP that stands out from all of them. Why does it sound like something that could have been covered by some one like Kaiser Chiefs .Obviously a great pop tune that stands the test of time

When this album was out, I’d just started work. I was tiling changing rooms on an army base in Leicester. Played this on tape all day full blast, on the b-side was non -stop erotic cabaret, soft cell. The squaddies all got to love it and often came in to listen to this track. Just wonderful, wonderful days brought back by this song. 🕶

Considering it was released on k-tel, modern dance was a fantastic album. Really captured the era well. Some great tracks on it. This one was just different to the others but equally as good. Great days indeed. 🕶
