The No Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

É mais uma, hein cleytinho paz
Escama, bebê
É o cl no beat, é o crime

Han, conexão RDF e San Martin
'To de pente alongado as bichinha ficou afim

Eu 'to de longe, mas 'to vigiando
Última forma se andar errado vai entrar na minha vida só se tiver ritmo

Passou de 18, qual que é? O pau quebra
Passou de 18, qual que é? O pau quebra
Passou de 18, qual que é? O pau quebra
Passou de 18, qual que é? O pau quebra

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "17" by The No's depict a narrative that revolves around a heightened sense of power, dominance, and allure associated with being seventeen years old. The song explores the singer's confidence and control over others, particularly in relationships. The opening lines mention Cleytinho Paz, who seems to symbolize a calm and peaceful persona. The mention of "escama" suggests a reference to drugs, perhaps alluding to the singer's association with the criminal world. The mention of "CL no beat" emphasizes how the crime and the beat go hand in hand.

The lyrics also reference RDF and San Martin, which could allude to specific places or groups associated with the singer's criminal connections. The mention of having a "long comb" implies that others become interested in the singer, but he remains detached. The line "Ela gosta dos dezessete, dos boyzinho da pirocona" suggests that girls are drawn to the singer because of his age and the size of his genitalia.

The repetitive chorus emphasizes the idea that anyone who surpasses the age of eighteen will face consequences or confrontations. It suggests that the singer's power and control are limited to his seventeen-year-old self, reinforcing the notion that "Dezessete anos comigo não tem conversa" (Seventeen years with me, there's no discussion).

Overall, the lyrics of "17" present a storyline that explores the singer's confidence, control, and allure associated with being seventeen years old. It touches upon themes of dominance, power, and criminal associations.

Thank You for the correction. I hate typos. Even more than I hate early Hitchcock 🙂
I was, of course, comparing ’’Number 17’’ to his later films. It's right there, in my original comment 🙂
The whole point I was trying to make is that it's wastly inferior compared to his later films.
Because I love his later films very much.
But if we try to compare with other works from the same era, I am in awe of ’’All Quiet on the Western Front’’, made two years earlier.
I just recently watched ’’My Man Godfrey’’, made four years later, and enjoyed it tremendously.
Comparing films is unfair because so much collective effort goes into the end product. Money plays a very big part.
It's like trying to compare different prepared foods - soup to ice cream, for example.
But don't you think some comparisons should be made? Otherwise how do we separate good films from bad? 🤷
And even if films are the sum of many different efforts of many different people, don't you think it's the director who is most responsible for film’s quality?
That is the job - to be in charge, to direct.
As far as my claim to fame, I have as much authority to criticize films as you do to criticize YouTube comments 🙂
p.s. English is not my first language. Not even the second. So please, if you feel like correcting me some more, I would appreciate it!

A very good twister for its time, silly, suspenseful and thrilling. Thank you.

I was surprisingly delighted with this fast paced, breakneck nonsense. It's very modern, like one of these more recent absurdist thrillers where you have no idea what's going on, a bunch of characters in search of a plot, very Pirandello. One of the few of Hitch's pics I've never seen before. It rolls along like, well...just like a runaway train.

Robert Osborne introduce this flick on TCM and I have always enjoyed it 😊🎉

@streamintrip

What's wrong with watching a film early in the Great dircetor's relative youth as he explores screenplay and filming techniques to achieve his style which later in his career prove masterful? Some things work, some (maybe most) don't. I just enjoyed watching the film and tried to follow the plot development and style. Not a good film, and he'd probably agree, BUT we're on a train journey heading to EXCELLENCE in the art of filmmaking! I don't know about you, but I'm having a helluvaride! Thanks Shout Factory for posting this. I'd never heard of it, but I'm glad I watched it.

Don't go into a spooky house if the door opens for you ;)

@ConradSpoke

This is a demo real of every trick in the book available to film making in 1932, but it's an incoherent mess.
