Uh (uh), uh (uh), uh (c'mon)

Ha, sicker than your average
Poppa twist cabbage off instinct
Niggas don't think shit stink

Overall Meaning

In “Hypnotize,” The Notorious B.I.G. glamorizes his flashy lifestyle and wealth while using a catchy flow to create a hypnotic effect on the listener. He begins by describing himself as “sicker than your average” and boasting about his ability to twist cabbage (marijuana), seemingly effortlessly. He then continues to describe his wealth, from his pink gator shoes favored by his Detroit crew to his Timbs rocked by his Brooklyn hooligans. The chorus of the song, “Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can’t you see? Sometimes your words just hypnotize me,” speaks to the hypnotic, almost trance-like effect this song has. In the second verse, Biggie continues to paint a picture of his extravagance, with references to cars, clothes, and sexual encounters. He raps about buying a new car every time he crashes his Lexus and being able to afford luxurious meals like escargot, all while still having time to visit his girlfriend at work for a mid-day hookup. He ends the song with a final chorus, repeating the hypnotic effect of his words on the listener.
