Into Another Tune
The Notwist Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
too many times to break free
I’ve been lying too many times to make this
stop
to lie
and all of a sudden it breaks
stop to lie
you’re howling at another moon
It’s too late and I see
you’re dancing to another tune
stop to lie
and all of a sudden it breaks
stop to lie
See what’s coming on
The lyrics to The Notwist's song "Into Another Tune" explore the idea of trying to break free from a pattern of behavior that no longer serves you. The singer has been lying to themselves and others in order to maintain this pattern, but in spite of their efforts, they find themselves unable to continue. The use of the phrase "stop to lie" seems to suggest that the singer is finally confronting the truth of their situation, and that this recognition is necessary for them to move on.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "It's too late and I see / You're howling at another moon / It's too late and I see / You're dancing to another tune." Here, the singer seems to be addressing someone else, perhaps someone they feel has betrayed them or left them behind. The image of howling at another moon suggests a profound sense of disconnection, while "dancing to another tune" implies a rejection of the old way of doing things. Taken together, these lines suggest a fundamental shift in the status quo, a recognition that things cannot go back to the way they were.
Overall, "Into Another Tune" is a song about transformation and letting go. The singer is attempting to shed old behaviors and beliefs that no longer serve them, while also acknowledging the pain of letting go of someone or something they once held dear. In the end, the song suggests that these changes are necessary, even if they are painful, if we are to move forward and find a new sense of purpose and meaning in our lives.
