I wrote a letter to myself and I had it sent
I prepared myself for the possibility that life would again slip by doing something I had hoped to avoid.

As a result, I was mentally equipped to deal with the prospect of the summer passing me by.

My past experiences of successive summers coming and going without me living fully has shaped my attitude towards it.

I know that no one can guilt trip me like I can
I'm quite capable of putting pressure on myself to make the most of my free time, more than anyone else ever could.

So here I'm out of excuses
I'm accountable to nobody except myself and so now I must face up to the fact that it's up to me to make the most of my summer.

I'm left to my own devices, completely unchaperoned
As a result, I'm solely responsible for my own decisions and time management, without anyone else to help guide me.

I won't have this much time to waste when I'm older
I'm aware that life has finite time and so it's best to make the most of it whilst I still have it.

I feel kinda bad about throwin' it away
I regret the times that I've let a summer pass me by without doing much to remember it by.

I'll get a face tattoo
I'm willing to do extreme things to remember my summer, such as getting a tattoo on my face or shoulder.

Maybe your name on my shoulder
Perhaps I would consider getting a tattoo of someone special in my life, although I'm unsure whether this would make my summer more memorable.

I cancel plans so I can sleep in the sun
I sometimes avoid doing fun things and instead opt to simply lie in the sun, which upon reflection is not the best use of my time.

It's no wonder that August comes and I can't remember a single day
It's unsurprising that I struggle to recall anything significant from my summer when I've not done much to make it memorable.

I can choose to live it up or not
At the end of the day, it's my decision whether or not to make the most of my summer and do things to truly live it up.

But in the end, it's just another wasted summer
If I don't make the most of my summer and do things that stick in my memory, then it will be like any other summer that has passed me by.

My calendar is blank
I have no concrete plans for my summer, which is a worrying sign that I may not fill my time with purpose.

Save for birthdays and a dentist appointment
My only fixed commitments are birthdays and an upcoming dental visit, which do not scream 'memorable summer' to me.

I try to pack the days with things I wanna do
I make an effort to fill my days with activities that interest me and make me happy - yet I'm aware I need to be more ambitious.

But I know that the plans always fall through
I'm aware that more often than not, when I make plans, I lack the motivation to follow through on them and instead spend my time doing nothing in particular.
