After All
The Oak Ridge Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

After all this life is over and our burdens have been lifted
And we stand upon the mountain up so tall
Looking over in that city that the Savior is preparing
Gives me faith that I can make it after all

Trials here are sometimes some like many
And at times my feet grow weary
Till it seems I'll almost stumble then and fall
But the tender hand that leads me
Is the hand that keeps me steady
And by faith I know I'll make it after all

By myself I cannot make it
But I know He's there to help me
He will hear my cry if only I will call
Just keep trusting, keep on believing

Are the words I hear Him whisper
Just a few more days to labor after all

Overall Meaning

The Oak Ridge Boys' song "After All" is a song about perseverance and faith. The song describes the burdens of life and the struggles that people face. It encourages listeners to keep holding on, to keep trusting and believing in God, and to know that even when things are tough and rough, one can make it after all.

The lyrics talk about the trials of life, how sometimes they are many and how our feet can grow weary, but we must not give up. The song draws an analogy likening life to a journey up a mountain. It states that after we've endured the journey, persevered the obstacles and finally stand on the mountain and look over the city that the Savior is preparing; it gives us faith that with God's help, we can make it no matter the adversity.

on King Jesus

There are rumors that this was created in a recording studio. I think it's possible, but I can remember buying the album in 1974 just to listen to the live version of King Jesus. I still have the album after 50 years. Ahh, you're in store for a great singin' tonight. . . is a precious memory I have of that album.
