Walk With Me
The Oak Ridge Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I, I want you to know that I love you
A million times more
Than anyone that I've known before
Cause you, you fill up my heart
You touch me and kindle a flame
That's as bright as the stars
But I burn out if you ever go
So stay with me, stay with me, stay
Tonight and the rest of my days
I need you more than it shows
All of your body and soul
You are the light of my life
You are the one thing that's right
So let's take it all of the way
Stay with me, stay with me, stay

Tonight the light in your hair
Is soft as the wind
There's a magical moon in the air
But it disappears the minute you're gone

So stay with me, stay with me, stay
Tonight and the rest of my days
I need you more than it shows
All of your body and soul
You are the light of my life
You are the one thing that's right
So let's take it all of the way
Stay with me, stay with me, stay

So stay with me, stay with me, stay
Tonight and the rest of my days
I need you more than it shows
All of your body and soul
You are the light of my life
You are the one thing that's right
So let's take it all of the way

Stay with me, stay with me, stay
With me, stay with me, stay

Overall Meaning

The Oak Ridge Boys's song Dear Jesus Abide With Me talks about the road to heaven and the hope that lies in it. The lyrics express the common human experience of tiresome and lonely days, whether that be physically or spiritually, but also contain the belief that the road to heaven is the road to home. For the singer, the trials they face on that road will soon be over, and they will see Jesus on the other side. Even at the supposed last moments of earthly life, like at the Jordan river, the singer truly believes they will have no fear. They trust that Jesus will be near and that they will soon have no more sorrows, doubts, or fear. The ultimate request in the song is for Jesus to abide with the singer as they travel life's rugged seas and to help them make their life what it ought to be. The poem is a statement of faith that no matter how tough life is, there is hope for something better beyond our present reality.

on King Jesus

There are rumors that this was created in a recording studio. I think it's possible, but I can remember buying the album in 1974 just to listen to the live version of King Jesus. I still have the album after 50 years. Ahh, you're in store for a great singin' tonight. . . is a precious memory I have of that album.
