Along with fellow California punk bands Green Day and Rancid, The Offspring have been credited with reviving mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States during the mid-1990s. To date, The Offspring has released eight studio albums, one compilation, four EPs and three DVDs. They have sold over 34 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling punk rock acts of all time. Each album since the release of their 1994 album Smash has sold over a million units.
Since the release of Smash, which is the best-selling independent label album of all time, The Offspring has achieved commercial success over five albums, with singles such as "Come Out and Play", and "Self Esteem". The band’s next three albums, Ixnay on the Hombre, Americana and Conspiracy of One, were also successful, with Ixnay on the Hombre and Conspiracy of One reaching platinum certification, and Americana achieving multi-platinum status. Longtime drummer Ron Welty left The Offspring in early 2003, and was replaced by Atom Willard. Later that year, the band released their next album, Splinter, to moderate sales and fairly warm reviews. In 2005, The Offspring released a greatest hits album and toured in support of the compilation. Their eighth studio album, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace, was released on June 17, 2008 with the hit singles "You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid" and "Hammerhead."
Days Go By is the band’s ninth studio album and is due to be released on June 26, 2012. The Days Go By Songfacts reports that the title track was released as the first single and was premiered on KROQ on April 27, 2012.
2. Offspring was a short-lived English pop duo of the early 1970s, consisting of Mike Brayn and John Howard, who met at Hurstpierpoint College in Sussex, United Kingdom. They released just one single, 'Windfall' (1972). Their planned studio album was never completed.

Looking through myself
Wanted to pretend
If I escaped
I could feel myself
I don't think you can
Been far and wide
But that hole inside
I went away
But I really lost
Left behind was me
Install in me
Clear me on my way
Ohhhhhhhh
Ohh oh oh, ohh oh oh
A Million Miles Away
(Ohh oh oh, ohh oh oh)
A Million Miles Away
I can't stay
I can't stay
(Ohh oh oh, ohh oh oh)
A Million Miles Away
Each passing day
Every passing face
Seems like such a gloom
I long to be
Home silently
Lying next to her
Just to get back
By her side is all,
All I need to be
I went away
What I really lost
Left behind was me
I need to be
Getting on my way
Ohhhh oh oh oh
Ohh oh oh, ohh oh oh
Ohh oh oh, ohh oh oh
A Million Miles Away
(Oh oh oh, oh oh oh)
A Million Miles Away
I can't take
I can't take
(Oh oh oh, oh oh oh)
A Million Miles Away
Install in me
Turn me on my way
I can't take, I can't take
A Million Miles Away
I can't take, I can't take
A Million Miles Away
I can't take, I can't take
A Million Miles Away
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
I can't take
I can't take
A Million Miles Away
The Offspring’s Million Miles Away is a song that tells us the story of the lead singer's feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction in his travels as a musician. He longs to be at home, beside his loved one, who provides him with a comforting presence, contrasting with the uncertain nature of touring life. He is trying to escape from his own self, but in his travels, he has left behind a fragment of himself, creating an inner turmoil, represented by the hole inside, that he carries with him always.
The hauntingly melodic chorus acts as a refrain, emphasizing the bitter reality that the singer is powerless to remain close to his loved ones. He cannot escape the pain of his separation, and though he acknowledges the distance between him and his loved one, he still yearns to be around her, where he feels he belongs. The song can almost be interpreted as a scriptural passage rather than merely lyrics, with its emotive power and universal longing for home, a theme that everyone can relate to.
Interesting Facts:
* Million Miles Away was released in 1997, part of The Offspring's album Ixnay on the Hombre.
* The song was written by the lead singer of the band, Dexter Holland, who is also responsible for other hit songs of the 90s such as "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" and "Come Out and Play."
* Million Miles Away was never released as a single, but it remains an audience favorite at The Offspring’s live performances.
* The song's music video features a collection of images of mid-20th-century suburban American life distorted by an image filter or shown upside down.
* The album, Ixnay on the Hombre, debuted at number 9 on the US Billboard 200 in 1997.
* The album contains 13 tracks, each relating to society's flaws and inconsistencies.
* The term ‘ixnay’ is an example of code language, originating from pig Latin, which is unlike English enough to form a secret code. It means ‘nix’ or ‘no’ in English.
* The album’s title, "Ixnay on the Hombre," is somewhat political, meaning the rejection of the man, which can be taken as loving the human race but rejecting its normative conventions and societal norms.
* While recording and writing this album, the band worked with arthouse director Richard Kern, who influenced the album's themes and artistic direction.
* In 2019, Ixnay on the Hombre was reissued on vinyl on its 20th anniversary.

I long to be
I yearn to be
Home silently
Quietly at home
Lying next to her
Next to the one I love
Just to get back
Simply to return
By her side is all,
Beside her is everything
All I need to be
All I need to exist
I need to be
I must become

Years and years later. Several gray hairs later, several failed romances later, 1 global pandemic later, this song still kicks ass on an entirely different level.

Woooord! It's kinda sad that I discovered this song when I was 10 and didn't have a clue what they were singing, cause my English was quite limited back then. And yet, even the grey hairs fit here for me.
