This song seems to be one of many predictions that the invasion of Iraq by the United States was coming, but the initial version is Terhan and was changed for the Rock Against Bush album. The movie "Bulworth" by Warren Beatty, released in the 1990's, also referred to "sending children to Iraq to get that oil money." And when it finally happened, the orchestrators initially called the invasion Operation Iraqi Liberation: O.I.L. And they changed it after realizing what the acronym spells...the real reason for the invasion.

its actually the same exact song...dexter and noodles just went back and forth on whether it should be about baghdad or tehran because both would apply when the song was written so the lyrics are vaguly different at some parts but overall its the same song

This song isn't exactly a celebration of ideas like "our flags are burning" or "our casualty is just a number" or "Islam be damned." The song is, by my interpretation, a statement against those ideas by exposing them as repellant. Come on now. Let's use our heads and not our hypersensitive gut reactions in the absence of thought.

I think they never changed anything. This album went out in 1989 and the first demo for this song is from 1988. 'guess they just made two versions because from 1980 to 1988, both Iraq and Iran were fighting each other, with the USA selling weapons to both parts and make big Buck$ from the Oil Busine$$ already. So that's why there are two versions. What's interesting and upsetting is that the lyrics are still valid today, 32 years after, wether w the Tehran or the Bhagdad version

So, this is Baghdad. They re-recorded Tehran as Baghdad for the Baghdad 7” EP in ‘91 and then Fat Mike grabbed it for Rock Against Bush Vol 1.

This is actually on the EP that got them signed to Epitaph, too.
