The Valley
The Oh Hellos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We were born in the valley of the dead and the wicked
That our father's father found
And where we laid him down
We were born in the shadow of the crimes of our fathers
Blood was our inheritance
No, we did not ask for this

Will you lead me?

We were young when we heard you call our names in the silence
Like a fire in the dark
Like a sword upon our hearts
We came down to the water and we begged for forgiveness
Shadows lurking close behind
We were fleeing for our lives

Will you lead me?

Overall Meaning

The Oh Hello's's song The Valley is a song that speaks of the struggle and pain of generational sins and how they seem to pass down from one generation to the next. The song begins with the acknowledgment that the singer and their kin were born in a place that was dead and wicked, a place that was discovered by their ancestors, and where their dead father was laid to rest. The valley symbolizes a place of darkness, fear and pain, where one is held captive by the sins of the past. The singer then acknowledges that they inherited a legacy of bloodshed, which they did not seek on their own, but it was handed over to them, regardless.

The second verse starts with a more hopeful note, as the singer remembers when they first heard the call of redemption, which was like a fire in the darkness, a sword upon their hearts. They then go on to describe how they came down to the water and asked for forgiveness, while the shadows lurked close behind, and how they were fleeing for their lives. This verse speaks of a moment of grace, where the singer realizes that there is a way out of the darkness, and they recognize the need to be led by a higher power.

Overall, the song is a reminder that painful generational sins can leave a lasting impact on families and communities, and it takes a conscious effort to break free from the shackles of the past. It highlights the importance of seeking forgiveness, taking responsibility and being led by a power greater than oneself.

Lyrics:
We were born in the valley,
Of the dead and the wicked.
That our father's father found,
And it's where we laid him down.

We were born in the shadow,
Of the crimes of our fathers.
Blood was our inheritance,
No we did not ask for this.

Will you lead me?

We were young when we heard you,
Call our names in the silence.
Like a fire in the dark,
Like a sword upon our hearts.

We came down to the water,
And we begged for forgiveness.
Shadows lurking close behind,
We were fleeing for our lives.

O Vale
NĆ³s nascemos sob o vale dos pervesos e mortais
Que o Pai do nosso pai instituiu

I have some lyrics to My own, even though you don't fit I created them because I didn't know the lyrics were and just went with it.

We were born in the valley
Of saints and sinners-

We were Young when we heard you
But now we're old and withered-

I thought it rhymed, and I made this up and I just sang it on loop

Iā€™m going through a bit of a crisis with religion right now, and I asked for a sign, and Iā€™m not sure if this is it, but it truly reflects how I feel right now and how I got to this situation. Iā€™m crying tears of I donā€™t even know what, but Iā€™m turning over a new leaf right here.

@curvy4655

Cant say much as to religion, but on a human to human level, I hope everything works out for you. Stay strong, stay kind, keep listening to good music :)

@B.Kamara2023

He will lead you to himself through your experiences. All the best in your spiritual journey!!

@libbysherman1527

Did you get your sign? I got mine, and it was an amazing, loving, and unique man who loves Jesus, who shared Jesus with me. I'm still in awe what happened and it's been almost 5 years. For someone like him to love the person I was, was a miracle. And for someone to break through my hardened heart with biblical truth in a loving way was a miracle.

This song makes me feel happy and just like?? people traveling into the new world / new land not knowing whatā€™s going to happen, if theyā€™re going to live another day, but being surrounded by people they love and just.. exploring. Truly living life in the open and being free.. makes me sometimes wish we didnā€™t have such an advanced world and can just.. live a more simple life
