Good Intentions
The One AM Radio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your good intentions, your (???)
Can you get over it, get over it?
The implications of your parents' address
Can you get over it, get over it?
Your metaphors, your sense of meter and rhyme
Can you get over it, get over it?
Your catholic tasteless(???) ways of wasting your time
Can you get over it, get over it?

Boy, you've been so lost in your head
Dreaming so long you never got out of bed
There's no reason why
-or so you have said-
All those things you've been trying to get
They haven't happened yet Come on and get over it

The meaninglessness of the work that you do
Can you get over it, get over it?
The success of everybody you knew
Can you get over it, get over it?
Krzysztof Kieślowski and Jean-Luc Godard
Can you get over it, get over it?

Your good intentions only got you this far
Can you get over it, get over it?

Overall Meaning

The One AM Radio's "Good Intentions" is a song that explores the constant struggle of trying to make something of oneself, while being consumed by insecurities and doubts. The lyrics of the song strips away the facade of perfection that most people put up, encouraging the listener to embrace the messiness and imperfections of life. The repeated line "can you get over it, get over it?" serves as a challenge to break free from the mental constraints that hold us back.

The first verse of the song touches on feeling weighed down by the ideals and expectations set by family and society. The lyrics suggest that it's important to break away from these notions and live for yourself. The next lines talk about the art of poetry, highlighting the importance of creative expression while acknowledging that it is sometimes difficult to execute perfectly. The following verse dives deeper into feelings of inadequacy, referencing the pointlessness of work and the fear of not measuring up to others. The chorus is a rallying cry, encouraging the listener to move beyond these anxieties and live the life they envision for themselves.

Overall, "Good Intentions" is a song about personal empowerment, pushing through self-doubt, and taking control of one's own life. The lyrics urge the listener to let go of the things that hold them back, embrace imperfection and keep pushing forward to achieve one's goals.

Love the song. Also, a great edit of the classic film "Mera Naam Joker"

@stfuken

the song is so upbeat but it the lyrics make me so sad =( in other words.. great job!

@anthonyparks505

This is a song about possibly 'getting over' unrealized ambitions of greatness (they haven't happened yet is one refrain), the singer has some desire (albeit a self-aware and self-deprecating desire) to join the pantheon of great artists like Godard and Kieslowski. Am I projecting my own life into this song? I guess it's succeeded at that because it's roped me into analysis mode.
