Too young to really be in love
They say that love's a word
A word we've only heard
But can't begin to know the meaning of
And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
We were not too young at all
And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then some day they may recall
We were not too young at all
The Osmonds’s song, “Too Young,” revolves around the theme of young love and how it's responded to by adults. In the song, the band asserts that individuals’ age and inexperience in life should not be a deterrent for falling in love. As implied by the title, the song's main topic is on how society tends to belittle young people's capability to love legitimately. The individuals who 'try to tell us we're too young' refer to older adults and society, who try to convince the young ones that love is beyond their reach due to their age. The band is trying to argue that love does not need a fixed age; anyone can fall in love, even the young ones.
The song conveys the message that true love should not be measured by age. The lyrics, “And yet we're not too young to know/This love will last though years may go/And then some day they may recall/We were not too young at all" reflects the idea that if strong emotions are felt, age will become irrelevant with time. The fact that the lyrics repeat these statements highlights the Osmonds’ confidence in their message.
