Girl In Love
The Outsiders Lyrics

Girl in love dressed in white
Crying crying on her wedding night
The gown of lace hung on a chair
The pretty gown she'll never wear
Never wear
There were no vows no vows today
Her lover her lover is far away
The chapel bells will never ring
Of her love or a wedding ring
Wedding ring
Vows so tender never never said
Only tears to fill her heart instead
Her gown of lace hung on a chair
Her love last night was sitting there
The pretty gown she'll never wear
Her love left her standing there
Standing there

My grand father Chester Eugene Kelley wrote this song. Along with time won’t let me, and one more but I can’t rember at the time. But he sadly passed way in 2018 at the Cleveland clinic. This brought me back some memories. I really mis him.

Wow, Chet Kelley? Great songs.. actually he and Tom King wrote at least ten other songs, being B-sides or album tracks. So sorry for your loss.

WoW .I can't believe I found this song. I was like 6 and I had a ratty old record player in my room and I had 8 small records. I constantly played this song and I've always remembered the first part of it but not the band Over the years I would occasionally think of this song and not one person that I asked even knew of it. I just stumbled upon it. What an exciting feeling...listening to it for the first time in a hundred years. THANK YOU so much for posting it and for even knowing of it.

This song brings back great memories. I had the good fortune of singing it (as a drummer with nothing to do on this song). This and Little Latin Lupe Lu were my two. Played in a garage band and was the "go to" band for all of the HS dances and hayrides. Do kids even know about hay rides? The whole era was amazingly fantastic! Thanks for the memories.

I don't know if I've ever heard this song in its entirety til now. It's so different from their usual pop/ rock style. This is a folk ballad, and rather long for a single record of that period

Thank you so much for your nice comment :) I was a young teen at that time also, when this song actually made it to #10 on the Chicago AM radio charts! Such raw emotion and the melancholy tune....I remember how it tugged at my heartstrings!!

Wow, so glad to find this, it's haunted me for years. I heard it once and only once on my tiny transistor radio way back when I was a teenager. I happened to be writing down lyrics that night and I wrote down the lyrics to this song, too. This is the second time I've heard it. It truly made an impression on me - I remembered it - after hearing it once - for almost 50 years. I still sing it now and again while doing dishes. Thank you so much for posting this lovely song.
