Inspired by 60's music such as Love, Burt Bacharach and The Beatles they failed to make any commercial headway despite garnering much critical praise for the two albums they released on Virgin, 1984's Pacific Street and 1985's ...From Across The Kitchen Table. Their sole top 50 single was Thank You which reached #48 in 1982.

Hey girl, whoever you are
You've got the season, the reason and me, wherever you are
Hey girl, something for me
And do you know what she said ? Nothing for me
And do you know what she said ? Something for me, yeah
I'll take you around.
Hey girl, wherever you are
You've got the sun and the wind and the rain, wherever you are
Hey girl, something for me
And do you know what she said ? Nothing for me
And do you know what she said ? Something for me, yeah
I'm gonna take you around.
But you can say just like anyone maybe
But there's one surefire thing about you
You can kick, kick, kick holes in my door
Throw, throw, throw plates against my walls
And you ..
Hey girl, whoever you are
You've got the season, the reason and me, wherever you are
Hey girl, something for me
And do you know what she said ? Nothing for me
Yeah, do you know what she said ? Yeah, something for me
And do you know what she said ? Something for me
And do you know what she said ? Yeah, something for me.
The Pale Fountains' song "Hey" is a love song that expresses the power and allure of a woman who has captured the singer's heart. The lyrics are filled with romantic imagery, including references to the different seasons, the sun, wind and rain, which all symbolize the depth of the singer's feelings. The verses repeat the same pattern of the singer addressing the woman with admiration and asking her if there is something for him, with the woman responding in one verse that there is nothing, and in another that there is something for him.
The chorus of the song features a catchy melody and playful lyrics that suggest the conflict and tension that can arise in a passionate love affair. The singer acknowledges that the woman has the power to hurt him, as evidenced by her ability to kick holes in his door and throw plates against his walls, but he is still drawn to her and willing to be with her despite the risks. Overall, the song is a celebration of the joys and dangers of love and the thrill of surrendering oneself to its power.
