I don't plan to
I don't plan to
Time I've given up
I don't plan to
I don't plan to
Every eye is on us
"Sing it with pride and promise, never cry
Never cry, but you know we like it honest
You know that's why we bought you
I like your style and all
But do it right
Do it in time"
Time to lighten up?
I don't plan to
I don't plan to
Time I've given up
I don't plan to
I don't plan to
I need it, I love it
The music, the time it takes for the letter to write back
Let it go
Let it go, 'cause this is the final product
Drink it a while and call us
Sell it for dimes and dollars
There you go
Time to lighten up?
I don't plan to
I don't plan to
Time I've given up
I don't plan to
I don't plan to
The Parcels' song "Lightenup" presents a rebellious attitude towards the idea of "lightening up" and conforming to societal expectations. The lyrics suggest a strong determination to maintain one's true identity, even if it means going against the norm. The repetition of "I don't plan to" emphasizes this defiance and assertiveness.
The song seems to be directed towards those who are trying to control or influence the band's music and style. The lyric "Every eye is on us, every side is on us" suggests that they are constantly being watched and judged. However, the band refuses to compromise their artistic integrity for the sake of pleasing others. The line "You know that's why we bought you" could symbolize the pressure and expectation placed on artists to create music that will sell.
The chorus of the song repeats the idea of not "lightening up" and not giving up time. It seems to imply that the band is willing to put in the necessary time and effort to create music that is true to themselves, even if it requires more work than conforming to traditional expectations.
Overall, "Lightenup" is a powerful message of artistic freedom and individuality. The Parcels are unapologetic in their refusal to conform and inspire listeners to embrace their true selves.
