The Parcels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As I look out, you're warning me
Your thoughts devour my point of view (give it up now)
It's true, I cower when I will speak
So let's get 'round to why

I will be the first in line to open up
So I don't mind to give you up
So let's get 'round to why
The one I need is tied up right now
So let's just wait a while
The one I need is tied up right now
So let's not draw the line
'Cause I can't make my mind up right now
So let's just wait a while
The one I need is tied up right

I will be the first in line to open up
So I don't mind
I will be the first in line to open up
So I don't mind to give you up

So let's get 'round to why
The one I need is tied up right now
So let's just wait a while
The one I need is tied up right now
So let's not draw the line
'Cause I can't make my mind up right now
So let's just wait a while
The one I need is tied up right-

It's unintended but all in vein
It's what I found on my side
You knew I'd pass through, it's all the same
So let's get down to why

The one I need is tied up right now

So let's just wait a while
The one I need is tied up right-

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Parcels' song Tieduprightnow are about waiting for the person you need despite their unavailability. The song begins with the singer talking about another person warning them about their thoughts which are consuming their point of view. Despite this, the singer is afraid to speak their mind. However, they want to understand why this is happening so they are willing to be the first to open up. They acknowledge that the person they need is currently tied up, but they are willing to wait until that changes. They can't make up their mind right now, but they're willing to wait a while.

The chorus repeats the idea that the person they need is tied up at the moment so they must wait. They do not want to put a label on their situation because they're unsure of their feelings. They reiterate that they'll be the first to open up and they're not afraid to give up the person they need if it's not meant to be.

In the bridge, the singer acknowledges that the situation is unintended and perhaps not what they expected. Despite this, they've embraced it and want to understand why this is happening. They don't want to give up on who they need, so they'll wait.

Overall, the song captures the feeling of uncertainty and longing for someone who is currently unavailable. The singer is afraid to share their feelings, but they're not giving up on the person they need.

As I look out you're warning me,
your thoughts devour my point of view.
(Give you up now)
It’s true I cower when I will speak,
so let's get round to why....

I will be the first in line to open up,
so I don't mind to give you up.

So let’s get round to why,
The one I need is tied up right now.
So let’s just wait a while,
The one I need is tied up right now
So let’s not draw the line,
Cause I can't make my mind up right now.
So let’s just wait a while,
The one I need is tied up right.

I will be the first in line to open up so I don't mind.
I will be the first in line to open up,
so I don't mind to give you up.

So let’s get round to why,
The one I need is tied up right now.
So let’s just wait a while,
The one I need is tied up right now
So let’s not draw the line,
Cause I can't make my mind up right now.

So let’s just wait a while,
The one I need is tied up right.

Its unintended but all in vein.
It’s what I found on my side.
You knew I'd pass through it’s all the same,
So let’s get down to why...

The one I need is tied up right now
So let’s get round to why,
The one I need is tied up, right

I totally get that the main hook in this song sounds extremely similar to Get Lucky, but I would say it's wrong to say this track takes elements from Daft Punk. I would rather say it mirrors Nile Rodgers or Chic instead of Daft Punk. That funky guitar, bass and drums soundscape Daft Punk featured on Random Access Memories and was Get Lucky's main hook was Daft Punk paying homage to funk pioneers like Nile Rodgers. Indeed it was also performed by him (and others), and while Daft Punk has always been inspired by funk, this non-sample based approach is the exception rather than the norm for Daft Punk.

A sound that is much more identified with Daft Punk is the vocoder/"robot voice", which is featured on all their non-Tron albums; Homework, Discovery, Human After All and Random Access Memories.
