(1) The Passenger are a hardcore band from Brisbane, Australia.

(2) 1999 was the year Andrew and James first put the band together under the name 2000 A.D. along with original bass player Nathan Eaton and drummer Alan Proud. After recording their four track E.P. 'Experimenting With The Truth' and playing one show, Alan jumped ship! What a great start...
Over the years, Andrew, James and Nathan continued to write and record together even though none of them lived in the same city. The academic year was spent doing what ever they did - Nath and Andrew were studying and James was teaching. In the summer months, they'd get together when at home in Fishguard, pool all their ideas, finish writing songs and record them at Dreamworld Studios in Letterston - a converted barn in the middle of no-where in Pembrokeshire.
During the summer of 2005, Nathan decided to move onto other things. So, Andrew and James moved to Cardiff to rebuild their band. After two or three months of meeting people who were nothing much more than bullshitters and posers... they finally met brothers Mat and Jon Griffiths.
Mat (bass) and Jon (drums) have been playing together for 6 years and it certainly shows!
Andrew - "We met with them at an open mic night somewhere. I was sceptical because they are quite a bit younger than us, I wanted prospective members to commit to the band and not give us some bollocks about homework and exams! James and I got up to play a song we had been working on and to show what we were about, it went down really well and the boys liked it. They then got up to play some drum and bass instrumental they wrote. The whole place was in silence while they played. I've been around musicians every single day for the last 5 or 6 years and I have never heard anyone play like these two!!"
Rehearsals started at the Griffiths' household and after three rehearsals we were back at the open mic night to play three songs. That little performance solidified the band and got them excited about new material and future shows.
The band have now finalised material to take to the studio and a demo is available on request. They will also be gigging very, very soon....

You stitched yourself up when you fell
Keep your memories in jars
Carry secrets in scars
Beneath your shell
You've seen some good days, and some bad ones too
You weave through fashion and trend
You've seen it set for the dearest of friends
You found faith but you, chose to doubt it
You found love but you, left without it
And now you don't want, to talk about it
You travelled down through foreign lands
Touched mountain tops and golden sand
Seen pyramids and temples made of stone
Keep seashells in a cashmere scarf
A treasured book of photographs
In every single one you stand alone
You've seen Vienna and the Berlin wall
As you watched the decades fall
The letters that you wrote never made it home
Your birthdays flew past like June
With Christmas days in hotel rooms
And new years eve with people you don't know
You built friendships but they, sailed without you
You never meant it and that's why, they doubt you
They don't ever talk about you
You're older than you used to be
The mirror weaves a tapestry
Of lines that dance and shimmer 'round your eyes
You stare back at a man, forever holding out his hand
As if the answer's going to fall out of the sky
But the penny never dropped
And no man has ever stopped time flying by
The song "On the Road" by The Passenger speaks about a journey of self-discovery and reminiscences of one's past. The song portrays the message of how life can be a long and winding road with its ups and downs. The first verse describes the journey and how one has overcome obstacles resulting in scars and memories. The second verse talks about the experiences and adventures that the traveller has had, through foreign lands, mountains, and the sea. The third verse hints at the regrets and missed opportunities that the traveller has experienced where he found faith, love, but left without them, and how he doesn't talk about them anymore.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the isolation that the traveller feels throughout his journey. The lyrics touch on losing friends who have sailed away without him and the fact that no one ever talks about him. The song concludes with a reflection upon aging, how the man looking back at the man in the mirror remembers his journey, and how no one has ever stopped time from flying by.

"You built friendships but they sailed away without you" This song got me deeply emotional as I reflect on my lives journey around the world. The great people I met along my trip in hostels, hiking, parks, schools, etc that I would never meet again.

Aye mate, same here. Nations, islands, continents, cities, towns, villages. I did relief work. Body is too busted to dig and chop and lift now. Met so many lovely people of many languages, faiths, cultures, and skin tones. Become mates with a spectrum of people, broke bread with them, lay under the stars with them, had to help bury some of them. My heart overflows with the love of knowing them and the grief of it as well. Life is beautiful but brutal too. Our relationships with each other is what makes it worth the pain of loss and struggle.
