My mom passed 3 years ago. Happened to find her Scott Joplin Rags piano book. I cried because she used to play The Entertainer so well. She always had her glass of iced tea next to her. Appears she used the Scott Joplin book to set her glass on while she played other music. The rings on the cover took me back snd brought tears to my eyes. Thinking of her today……❤️

Born in 1992, my dad worked at The Pioneer casino in Laughlin, Nevada. Every time you'd walk up there would be an automated piano playing this song. Forever burned into my memory and always makes me think of being a little kid playing in casinos with the wild feral cats that roamed around. Good times

I used to ask my Mom to play this song on our piano all the time when I was a little boy (in the 80's). This brings back such fond memories of her. Dude, velocity is a measure of speed and direction. I learned to play this when I was 12, because the tune became popular when it was used on the soundtrack of the movie The Sting. My friends were always impressed I could play it. I had been taking piano lessons for six years but this was the first music I enjoyed playing rather than the music I was forced to learn for lessons.

STORY time: I remember for our piano class in 9th grade (6 years ago), the class was organized from least advanced to most advanced. The first row were for the noobs or kids who messed around. Second row was for those coming into their own and were eh to ok. The back row was average to elite. The most left seat on the back row was usually an average player who had some skills, the far right was for the cream of the crop (number 1). The back right corner , that’s the student got the only full electric piano , everyone else had regular smaller keyboard.

For finals we all played our finals in order from least skilled to most skilled. Everyone from the back row impressed me and I thought they were real good. But the number one guy , I believe his name was Josh (long hair, looked like he belong to the hobbit). He starts playing the entertainer at a ridiculous speed with no flaws. I was IN AWWW. One of the reasons I have practiced piano every since was because that guy inspired me to. I wonder where that dude is now. I was a HS freshman and he was a senior. Now I’m a college junior , hopefully that guy is doing all right, pretty dope guy.

Agree. It's really true during recital. I started piano in my third grade but I stopped cuz I transfer to another school but still I play piano sometimes.

We had an old electric piano in my childhood house that could play some songs on its own. My sister used to play this song, number 99 on the piano's list, to ward off the ghost of one of our grandma's boyfriends. Good times.
