Former ballerinas turned songstresses, they released their self-titled debut in 2000 with Epic. The album was met with lukewarm reception, but the girls were undeterred. After moving to New York, they released Light Of The Moon with Universal in 2005, with similar luck. After leaving the label and their manager to make some serious changes, they recorded their third album with producer Roger Greenawalt and after having opened a week's worth of shows for Albert Hammond Jr. [Catherine Pierce's fiancee] in November 2006, the girls were greeted with much more enthusiastic reception and excellent press.
Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge was released in April 2007.
The Pierces recently gained even more press when they were featured on the December 5th episode of the hit TV show, "Gossip Girl".
However, despite Catherine's high-profile celebrity romance with the Strokes guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr., the increased publicity didn't translate into sales.
According to the You'll Be Mine Songfacts, the siblings were on the verge of calling it a day when a friend of theirs, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, offered to produce them. The result was The Pierces fourth album, You & I, their first release after signing to Polydor.

Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Love it isn't easy babe
But I don't want to play
You are knocking at my door
Let me pull down the sheets
Now the room is blue
I don't want nobody else
If I can't be with you
Close my eyes
Leave me in quiet
You said I was hiding
And I will not deny it, oh
Lala lala love
Your eyes look heavy babe
So why won't you just sleep
You said I should let it go
But this one I will keep
Close my eyes
Leave me in quiet
You said I was hiding
And I will not deny it, oh
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Close my eyes
Leave me in quiet
You said I was hiding
And I will not deny it, oh
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
Lala lala love
The Pierces's song Close My Eyes is a beautiful song that speaks about love – how it's not easy, how it can make us hide sometimes, and how sometimes we just want to close our eyes and be left in peace. The song starts with the repeated phrase "Lala lala love," which serves as a reminder that, despite the challenges, love is still worth pursuing. The lyrics then launch into the challenges of love, with the singer admitting that she doesn't want to play games with love, but that it's not easy to navigate. She notes that someone is knocking at her door, but that she can't come out today – potentially indicating that she's been hurt before and isn't ready to risk it again.
The song takes a turn when the singer pulls down the sheets and turns the room blue, setting the mood for introspection. She admits that she doesn't want anyone else if she can't be with the person she loves. The chorus reinforces the theme of hiding, with the singer acknowledging that she's been accused of hiding and admitting that it's true – she wants to close her eyes and be left in quiet, with her love still present.
The last verse shifts the focus to the other person, with the singer commenting that the person's eyes look heavy and that they should sleep. The person had previously suggested that the singer let go of something, but the singer insists on holding onto it. The song ends with a final repetition of the chorus and the phrase "Lala lala love," suggesting that love continues to be a mysterious force that we can't quite explain, but that we continue to pursue regardless.
