Former ballerinas turned songstresses, they released their self-titled debut in 2000 with Epic. The album was met with lukewarm reception, but the girls were undeterred. After moving to New York, they released Light Of The Moon with Universal in 2005, with similar luck. After leaving the label and their manager to make some serious changes, they recorded their third album with producer Roger Greenawalt and after having opened a week's worth of shows for Albert Hammond Jr. [Catherine Pierce's fiancee] in November 2006, the girls were greeted with much more enthusiastic reception and excellent press.
Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge was released in April 2007.
The Pierces recently gained even more press when they were featured on the December 5th episode of the hit TV show, "Gossip Girl".
However, despite Catherine's high-profile celebrity romance with the Strokes guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr., the increased publicity didn't translate into sales.
According to the You'll Be Mine Songfacts, the siblings were on the verge of calling it a day when a friend of theirs, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, offered to produce them. The result was The Pierces fourth album, You & I, their first release after signing to Polydor.

You'll never hear my voice again
You are ridiculous
With your imaginary friends
All that I want
Is for you to come to ruin
All that I want
All that I want
Is for you to come crawling back
This is the end of us
And everything you said we'd be
And all the love I bring
I will be taking home with me
I do not want
For you to be happy
I do not want
For you to be happy
All that I want
Is for you to come crawling back
I want you to come to me
I want you to come to me
I want you to come to me
I want you to, I want you to
This is the first day
Of many years of sorrow
You won't forget my name
But I'll forget your face tomorrow
All that I want
Is for you to come to ruin
All that I want
Is for you to come to ruin
All that I want
Is for you to come crawling back to me
Is for you to come crawling back to me
Is for you to come crawling back
Is for you to come crawling back to me
The lyrics to The Pierces' song "Ruin" depict a painful break-up where the singer is hurt and angry. The chorus repeats the lines "All that I want is for you to come to ruin, all that I want is for you to come crawling back." The singer desires vengeance and wants the other person to suffer and regret their actions. The line "You won't forget my name, but I'll forget your face tomorrow" suggests that the singer wants to move on from the relationship, but not before the other person suffers.
The first verse suggests that the singer is cutting off all communication with the other person. They see the other person as ridiculous with their "imaginary friends." It's possible that the other person was either cheating or spending more time with their friends than with the singer. The second verse shows that the singer still harbors some love for the other person, but doesn't want them to be happy. This could be seen as a form of emotional self-defense, where the singer wants to protect themselves from further hurt.
Overall, "Ruin" is a powerful song that touches on themes of heartbreak, vengeance, and moving on. The lyrics are straightforward and show the emotions of the singer in a powerful way.
