Former ballerinas turned songstresses, they released their self-titled debut in 2000 with Epic. The album was met with lukewarm reception, but the girls were undeterred. After moving to New York, they released Light Of The Moon with Universal in 2005, with similar luck. After leaving the label and their manager to make some serious changes, they recorded their third album with producer Roger Greenawalt and after having opened a week's worth of shows for Albert Hammond Jr. [Catherine Pierce's fiancee] in November 2006, the girls were greeted with much more enthusiastic reception and excellent press.
Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge was released in April 2007.
The Pierces recently gained even more press when they were featured on the December 5th episode of the hit TV show, "Gossip Girl".
However, despite Catherine's high-profile celebrity romance with the Strokes guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr., the increased publicity didn't translate into sales.
According to the You'll Be Mine Songfacts, the siblings were on the verge of calling it a day when a friend of theirs, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, offered to produce them. The result was The Pierces fourth album, You & I, their first release after signing to Polydor.
The One I Want

I know it ain't
Ain't easy
To love someone
But he is the one I want
My love I see in front of me
The hero and the falling man
Oh, can we forget yesterday
He has passed out on the bed
With tears in his eyes
He was lost but I have found
He's deeper than the ocean
Higher than the rain
Let me walk beside you now
Oh I will never leave you in so much pain
A lover and a fighter
He was the best I ever had
He is the one I want
Come lay your head upon my heart
Go easy on me
I know that I am the one you want
Oh, can we forget yesterday
Throw me right down on the bed
We can forget it all
He was lost but I have found
He's deeper than the ocean
Higher than the rain
Let me walk beside you now
Oh I will never leave you in so much pain
The Pierces' song "The One I Want" is a heartfelt anthem about loyalty and devotion in a rocky relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability, but also a deep-rooted affection for "the one." The opening line suggests that the relationship may have a history of sadness, but the singer knows in her heart that it's worth the effort to love and be loved. She sees her partner as both a hero and a broken figure, but he is the one she wants.
The chorus repeats the line, "He's deeper than the ocean, higher than the rain," which serves as a metaphor for the complexity and depth of their connection. The bridge of the song is particularly poignant, as the singer promises to stand by her partner even when he is in pain. She recognizes that he is both a lover and a fighter, and that he is the best she's ever had.
Overall, "The One I Want" is a powerful song about love, commitment, and the resilience of the human heart. It reminds us that even when relationships are difficult, it's possible to find a deep connection with another person that is worth fighting for.
