Same Old Song
The Pietasters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're sweet as a honey bee, but like a honey bee stings,
You've gone and left my heart in pain.
All you love was a favorite song
The one we danced to all night long
It used to bring sweet memories of a different lover that used to be
(chorus: Now it's the same old song, but with a different meaning
since you've been gone. It's the same old song, but with a different
meaning since you've been gone.)
Sentimental fool, am I, to hear that old love song, and want to cry
But the melody, keeps haunting me, reminding me of the love we used to
be
I keep hearing the part that used to touch our heart singing
Ever, forever, darling, breaking up never
(Chorus)
Precious memories keep lingering on, every time I hear our favorite song
Now you're gone, there's just emptiness.
I only reminisce the happiness is true
We used to dance to the music, make romance to the music
(chorus)x3

on Set Me Up

The song is about former DC mayor, Marion Barry.

On January 18, 1990, Barry was arrested with a former girlfriend, Hazel Diane Moore, in a sting operation at the Vista International Hotel by the FBI and D.C. police for crack cocaine use and possession. Moore was an FBI informant when she invited Barry to the hotel room and insisted that he smoke freebase cocaine before they had sex, while agents in another room watched on camera, waiting for Barry to accept her offer. During the videotaped arrest, Barry says of Moore, "Bitch set me up.”
