I Think I Can
The Pillows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

見てもにつかない
双子の君どうしたんだい靴紐さえ
解け抜糸のまま上の空

街構えてる
ハイエナのキスが一発どれの目にも
凡そ不可能なベット楽しいんだいな
I THINK I CAN
(x3)

振りもよろない
黒い森でゆうかんなカメレオンが
捨てた羅針盤を未来で

何も言わないで
てんてんだ君かんたんなおき手紙は
ドアに刻まれてた
I THINK I CAN
(x7)

欠けがえのない夢を新チャプター
もぜったい誤魔化せないんだ
寝ても覚めても繰り返す

I THINK I CAN
(x13)

Overall Meaning

The song "I Think I Can" by the Japanese rock band The Pillows tells the story of two identical twins. The first verse describes how one of the twins seems to be lost in his own thoughts and doesn't even bother tying his shoelaces, allowing them to remain untied, and loose strings dangling. The second verse mentions a city where hyenas kiss and the bed has an impossible amount of fun. The chorus repeats the phrase "I think I can" three times, seemingly expressing the confidence that the character has despite their circumstances.

In the middle of the song, the character mentions a chameleon that lost its compass in a dark forest, and how a simple message was left on a door. The third and final verse is about how the character can't hide their irreplaceable dreams, and no matter how much they sleep, they will always repeat their journey.

The song's lyrics are open to interpretation, but it seems like the character is expressing their confidence in their ability to overcome their hardships and continue their journey towards their dreams, even if things around them seem impossible.

When this songs playing and he's flying down, transforms, and says I Love You I always get chills and tears. My opinion FLCL is in top 3 greatest animes of all time. Six episodes and killer soundtrack..... truly a must watch for anime fans.
