1. the pillows (ザ・ピロウズ) are an alternative rock band from Hokkaidō, Japan, best known outside Japan for their contributions to the soundtrack of the anime series FLCL (Fooly Cooly).
They consist of 山中さわお (Sawao Yamanaka) -vocals & guitar-, 真鍋吉明 (Yoshiaki Manabe) -guitar-, 佐藤シンイチロウ (Shinichiro Sato) -drums-.
The band officially formed on September 16, 1989 as a four-man group. The fourth man and original bassist, 上田ケンジ (Kenji Ueda), left the band in 1992 to become a music producer and do solo work. Since then, 鹿島達也 (Tatsuya Kashima) and later 鈴木淳 (Jun Suzuki) have taken his place as supporting bassists. Neither Kashima nor Suzuki have been named official members out of respect for Ueda.
The band name is intentionally left without any capitalization.

The Pillows's song Ritalin 202 is a dark and melancholic lyrical work that touches upon themes of drug addiction, mental illness, and the longing for escape. The lyrics portray a troubled girl, who struggles with the side effects of medication, addiction, and a sense of emptiness that makes her want to escape from her reality. The first verse describes the girl's struggle to feel numb despite the anesthesia not working during her medical examination. She then embarks on a journey to a blurry world, indulging in smoking and apple pies. The second verse portrays the girl as a lost soul who wanders around an ant's nest covered in honey. She walks with a sample case and a spike pierce while biting her tongue while smiling through the pain.
The chorus repeats a phrase that expresses the girl's desire to escape to a better place, a place where she can buy wings to fly away. The line 'She stays up until Doc says no' is an indication that she is taking more medication than prescribed or maybe self-medicating. The bridge, 'Go back! Go back! Go back!' is most likely a reference to the people who care for her, telling her to stop before she causes any more harm to herself.
